RI laws.

where can i find the laws on going doorless? a guy told me that he got a moving violation for running doorless, RI trooper gave him a ticket for not having a chain when he had his doors off. i ran doorless all summer last year and never heard of such a thing.

The doors come off. You are wearing a seat belt. What's his beef?

Hmm thats odd...cop must have been having a bad quota and not enough speeders but since wranglers doors are able to come off and meant to come off it should be no problem...did he still have side mirrors?

i expected to see that you were 13 or 14 years old, 40 years old (if that's true) and still acting like a tween.

you're what it sounds like when a big rock gets thrown into a lake.

I'm not so sure YOU should be calling others out for acting like a "tween" on the internet with your initial reaction to his comment. But to answer your question.

The best option and the one I have used in the past in other states is to call the Highway Patrol, as them if there is a specific law in regards to the doors off issue. Sometimes they will be jerks and just say it is illegal or it is legal but ask for specifics. They have it and once you have something Vehicle code wise you can further follow up online.

Hey I did some searching and found nothing regarding doors.

I did find stuff about lift laws 4 inch max lift.

31-23-13.1 Altering height of or operating a motor vehicle with an altered height prohibited. No person shall alter the height of or operate a motor vehicle with an altered height that has an original manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating of up to and including ten thousand pounds (10,000 lbs.), by elevating or lowering the chassis or body by more than four inches (4") from the original manufacturers' specified height by use of so called "shackle lift kits" for leaf springs or by use of lift kits for coil springs, tires, or any other means or device. The administrator of the division of motor vehicles shall establish rules and regulations for motor vehicle heights including exceptions for vehicles used for farming or forestry. No motor vehicle that has been so altered, modified, or changed beyond the provisions of this section or the rules and regulations established by the administrator of the division of motor vehicles, shall be operated on any highway. Violations of this section are subject to fines enumerated in 31-41.1-4.

Cool part about it when I went to look up the fines in 31-41.1-4 this is what I found.

31-41-1 31-41-6. [Repealed.]

So basically you can't lift your rig more than 4 inches but if you do and get caught they have no fine or punishment laid out. So go big or go home.
