It shouldn't be hard, I think most trailer axles over a certain weight are set up for brakes. I think you'll spend roughly 200 per axle for hardware and drums. You'll just need to know what axles / spindles they are..

If he is that desperate to sell start at around $500, if he starts to try and get you to offer him more, politely explain to him that you will have to put well over $500 into said trailer to make it safe for use. Now your looking at $1000 for a USED trailer when you can buy a brand spanking new one for around $1500- $1800, and all you have to do is hook up to it and go.

IMO if it dont have brakes your gonna have to dump some coin into getting them and installing them. Not to mention last I checked the breakaway kits werent cheap.

I thought about buying a trailer like that one and decided against it due to the fact its only purpose would be to haul a vehicle.

yeah, your deff better off getting a trailer that comes w/ brakes. whether they are inertia controlled, or electric, it's gonna be very expensive to install brakes on a trailer w/o brakes.
and there's plenty out there that come w/ them. just keep looking.

Nah... not enough spent! Where's your weight distributing hitch? Or the winch to pull the dead XJ onto the trailer?
