Off-roading newbie
So after Straightening out most of my mechanical problems I finally got a chance to take my XJ onto the trails. I live in Methuen Mass, but went to one near North Andover. Messed around a little bit in the morning and didn't get stuck (Even though its a stock 89XJ 4wd with no lockers.)
BUT! I went back at night and saw this swamp. It was frozen, I assumed, since I saw tire tracks on it and it supported me+four of my friends weight. I made the mistake and hugged the edges of the swamp, where the snow was. Snap. Both right tires sink into mud and I'm stuck. Wish I had taken pics, but beyond that I think it did very well. After walking about a mile out, I see this guy's tracks. When I saw the tracks in the swamp, I thought, that has to be a massive old john deere tractor. It was a Wrangler with 42's. Long story short, guy pulls me out, but mentions that he doesn't like people coming out here since he and a couple of his friends use it. And his club (didn't ask which one.) It's a great spot, it is state owned but so far away from the road that they wouldn't know anyway. Would I be stepping on his toes if I came back out there? Because I know I can make it out there fine as long as I stay away from mud. Kinda looking for someone elses opinion on this.

Please join a club and stop illegally wheeling. There are hundreds of people in Mass alone that work VERY HARD to gain us access to parcels of land. All we need is one renegade to make a local paper to ruin the image we are working so hard to build up. If you don't know who to contact, look here: http://www.ec4wda.org/regiond/memberclubs.asp Chris Ryan Treasurer|Secretary|Membership Chairman Underground Jeeps www.undergroundjeeps.com

x3 on the JOIN A CLUB!!! Line.
Most of the affiliated clubs in NE have access to thousands of acres of private land, and know the legal wheeling spots. We've got precious little access in New England and don't need to risk loosing what we've got. All your doing is fueling the fire of environmental activists who think we don't belong in the woods at all and will gladly take photos of your tracks and ruts you left to prove we're an environmental hazard. |
