LI beaches

Does anyone know of any beaches one can drive on in Long Island this time of year? Thanks.

New York State 4 Wheel Drive Fishing Permit

Permits can be purchased at: Robert Moses State Park, Belmont Lake State Park, & Montauk Downs (golf course).

Dates Of Sale: January 2, to April 30th,
Tues. After Labor Day to Dec. 31,

Annual Fee for the permit is $49.00

The NYS permit allows access to the following outer beaches: Gilgo, Cedar (Sore Thumb area), Robert Moses (Democrat Point), Napeague, Hither Hills, and Montauk Point.


Suffolk County

Theodore Roosevelt, Cupsogue, Cedar Point, Smith Point and Shinnecock East Outer Beaches.
Charles Altenkirch, formerly known as Shinnecock West -
Vehicle access only Sept. 15 - March 15.
Recreational Vehicle Use Permit: Valid 1/06 through 12/06
(Night Fishing Permit Included Upon Request)
Resident - Annual Fee $ 75.00
Res. Sr. Cit./Handicapped - Annual Fee $ 37.50

Resident Fall Permit

(9/9 - 12/31)
$ 37.50
Tourist Permit - Annual Fee $ 200.00

Tourist Fall Permit

(9/9 - 12/31)
$ 75.00
Vehicle Use Permit Replacement Fee $ 15.00


Day Use Permits:
For Vehicles Who Do Not Purchase Yearly Permit
(All Outer Beaches)
Resident, Sr. Citizen & Handicapped $ 25.00
Tourist $35.00

Overnight Use (Per Night) NO TENT CAMPING
Shinnecock East, Cupsogue, Smith Point, & Theodore Roosevelt (Fee Charged 4/4 - 10/27)

Resident $12.00
Res.Sr. Citizen/Handicapped $ 6.00
Tourist - with Day Use Permit $ 20.00

Theodore Roosevelt Park (Outer Beach)

Seasonal Camping Trailer Storage (May 1 - October 31)

$ 50.00


Vehicle Access Policy

The following is the policy for Charles F. Altenkirk County Park:

Limited off-road vehicle access will be permitted at this park between September 15th
and March 15th of any calendar year.

Vehicle access will be permitted via Trustee roads J, (east end of parking area at
Ponquogue Beach) K and L and east side of Tiana Beach parking lot.

Access will be limited to Suffolk County residents with valid green key cards and
Suffolk County Parks valid Recreational Vehicle use permits and Southampton
Town residents with valid Southampton Town Trustees resident 4x4 vehicle permits.
