Why only 12.50?

Why only 12.50" wide?
Back in the day , most mud tires were available in the following sizes:
12.00x33
14x35
15x38
17x40
18x44

Seems like nowadays most manufacturers don't make anything wider than a 12.50.
<rant> Is there something wrong with the 14x35? ...known to cause accidents with school buses or something ? I have 15x12" wheels on my jeep and I'm a touch frustrated with the tire choices out there these days. </rant>

I like the IROKs I have right now (14x37) but I'd like to go back to 35s if I could find a affordable tire I liked. Any ideas?

Turn the question around - why wider than that? Lots of things that didn't work well have been tried in the past and abandoned. If there was demand, supply would catch up.

Nitto Mud Grapplers are wider than usual in the sizes I've looked at.

As Polonius mentioned, Nitto makes some wider Mud Grapplers. There is a 35x14.50x15 size.

Interco still makes their Boggers in the wider sizes. They have their 35x14.50x15 and 35x16x15 sizes.

Thanks guys .
I had a set of boggers once, for a couple months not for me!
I've seen the nittos too, not sure if I like the tread design.
Who knows , I may just get another set of IROKs again, hard to beat the price.
