What size tire can I put under my stock Rubicon??

I have a 2004 Rubicon that is not lifted. The stock size is 245/75/16. I want to go with a wider Duratrac tire but how big can I go? I was thinking 265/75/16.... but bigger is better! Any thoughts?

33x12.50's will fit, or whatever the metric is... 315/70? I just put them on my 03 X and they don't rub at all.

You need 4" backspacing for this btw.

You will have a hard time going any bigger then stock without any lift, you really cant stuff much more tire in those wheel wells, especially if its going offroad. I assume you are planning on reusing the Moabs? Depending on the brand and type of tire you could get anything from a slight rub on the control arms to damaging your wheel flares.

For 32" tires you might get away with running a 1" body lift or better yet a 2" budget boost. Using the Moabs you might need to put a couple of washers in your steering stops, that's what I do.

Whaaa? I have about 4" of lift and spider trax and washers on my steer stops for my 285/ 75/ 16s

you couldn't hit a pot hole with those tires and no lift!

I agree with what the other guys said who said 265, but I think that wider flares and a 3/4" bumpstop might be all you need. Wider flares are cheap and you can install them yourself.

Another other option for the 265 tire is a stock flare and a 2" budget boost poly coil spacer.

The ideal solution would be a 2" coil spacer (they're cheap) and wider flares (they're cheap and you can install them yourself). That would be dandy for the 265 tire size, IMO.

=====

Keep in mind that Omix Ada and Rugged Ridge sell 6" and 7" wide flares cheaply that will increase your tire clearance by 1". Then you'd need less budget boost coil spacer to fit those 265 tires.

If you get 265 tires without modifying anything, they'll work fine onroad, IMO, but not offroad where they'll rub various things.

=====

I always manage to run at least 1" taller tire than people think my lift can handle. My secrect weapon is wider flares. I have Warn 7" flares, but they cost me $500 installed. You might look at less expensive brands like Omix Ada, which won't last as long, but they'll last at least 5 years and are inexpensive to buy, and I think they look fine.
