Ultimate 33" tire / 3-4" lift shopping list for a Noob
OK. For those New to wheeling or those who are just curious:
I have a 2 month old 05 unlimited. I want to lift it but I am seriously confused. If I get 33''s I got to change my gears to 4:11 from 3:73 (i was told) I have to replace my speedo gear so my odometer or speedometer reads right I read something about watching how wide a tire you get so not to put excess stress on your axles causing them to snap. theres the issue of lockers. I know they increase traction but are not nessisary. 3 inches are required but 4 is better? what about that? suspension systems. what to get? why? i dont get suspension lift and body lift. can someone explain this for me? what do i need? Im looking for 33''s with 3-4 inch lift. good suspension. acurate spedo and need to keep decent gas milage and power. (up to 4:11) help! thanks!

Yes you will need to change your speedo gear go to www.raingler.com check out the tech section for the proper speedo gear you will need. The issue of backspacing on your rims you'll need between 3.25 to 3.75" which will keep the tires outta the inner fenders too much, and too much backspacing is harder on you bearings, but you'd really have to go with a lot to that and it should be pretty obvious that you have way too much back spacing...it would stick out big time and look like a lowrider. You will need some type of lift/susp. cheapest and not the best way body lift, more than 1.25" looks cruddy IMO. Check out a budget boost from Rubicon Express or if you have the money get a good system. Also check out www.dpgoffroad.com for thier Old Man Emu systems rides very very nice, great quality and awesome customer service. Lockers....if you later decide that you really like offroading and want to improve your performance offroad, get the lockers when you get re-geared, they are already going to be in the axle, and it'd save you money in the long run. A good allround tire would be the BFG MT or if you dont want a mud tire check out thier AT. Hope this helps.... ![]() |
