Trying to avoid death wobble
Hi, I am new to this forum and a first time Jeep owner. I bought a 05 Rubicon Unlimited and want to lift it in the future. I have read those who have lifted their Jeeps sometimes experience death wobble. I think this is due to going over 3" with a short arm suspension lift. If I lift my Jeep 4 or 4 1/2 " and use a long arm suspension lift, will I prevent death wobble?

I have a 4" Full Traction lift and have ZERO problems. The key is proper tire balance, and a good alignment. Some folks will say a steering stabilizer only masks a problem, but I am of the few that believe thats what its supposed to do. I am still on short arms and am quite pleased with the performance of my lift. I have no quams about putting anyone behind the wheel of my heep, including my wife and my 17 year old niece. Death wobble really is a troublesome issue, but for most it comes when they piece together a lift and do NOT add all the essential components. A good quality lift, with balanced tires and aligned properly will drive as well as a stock jeep. Good luck, theres lots of decisions ahead, ask all the questions you can think of and while your reading the answers be saving your $$ for the best.

As you lift the vehicle/run larger tires the vehicle is more likely to experience DW but DW can happen to a vehicle with stock tires and suspension.
The type of lift really doesn't play into the mix. The causes of DW are usually an out-of-balance tire combined with loose suspension parts (the track bar is the most common culprit). Unbalanced tires and loose/worn suspension parts can happen regardless of the lift installed. |
