Tread Wright Tires...Any Good?

Anybody have experience with Tread Wright Tires? The price is right, but I have never used retreads before. Are they safe? Do I have to worry about them blowing at 65-70MPH? Useful on the trail? Any input would be appreciated.

ha....i read this on jeepsunlimited too. I wanna buy some, but i'm worried. I asked my dad just to see what he'd say and he told me he ran retreads back in college to get by. he claimed he had horrible experiences with them, including the tread letting go at 55mph

That's what I've heard about retreads too. I'm probably gonna have to suck it up and spend $700 on tires

I've probably driven 100k miles on retread and never had a problem.

I've had them on my YJ for probably a year now. I don't put a ton of miles on it, but they have held up just fine.

Seems like to me they'd make a great spare at least. I wouldn't mind saving 90 bucks or so for a tire I won't use much if at all, unless I rotate it in.

Couple guys have them on their XJs and they are holding up great. That's what I'm getting when the time comes.

retreads have come a long way no a days and theres alot of ppl with them on their grands and are fine

Everything I've heard about the retreads is positive. The biggest problem seems to come when people don't take care of them properly - i.e. making sure they are properly inflated. They might come apart at high speed then, but that's an easy thing to prevent.

I've got TreadWrights on my xj and I love them. They balanced better than most new tires I've purchased before and wear great. I do agree, though, that running them with low air pressure could cause heat buildup and possible failure. I keep mine at 35 PSI all the time no prob (only 23575R15's). Get the all terriain version if you are planning on any street driving, the OTR's howl like a bandit on the pavement.

I will never run any other tire other than a TreadWright tire. I have over 20,000 miles on these new ones and NEVER had one problem. YES, in the past there have been plenty of horror stories about retread tires. I firmly believe that TreadWright (and other companies) have perfected these tires. No company wants a lawsuit!

I have seen plenty of articles in mags about these tires, and even tho you void the warranty if you air them down, one mag wheeled with them at 10psi with no problems. The fact that they have a warranty and they are now making a 37" tire is great news to me!

Hell, I even put their logos on my Jeep (yes, for FREE) because I love these things so much!

Just my 2 cents! :tea:

I've got almost 10k on mine. (275/75r15 atg's) had'em went I drove out to Phoenix and back to columbus OH. I've used them in the sand/rocks out in the summer heat of AZ to the muddy woods and snow in Ohio. I replaced one tire b/c of my own stupdity, trying to cross a downed tree busted the bead off at 15psi and had to drive out to a safe spot to change it. They're an awesome tire and will be purchasing the 31's in the spring for my other XJ and CJ:tea:

Mine is a DD. (30,000 miles a year). I do about 40% off road (mind you it's all dirt/mud/sand, no rock). Highway, city, etc.

Hope this helps!
