Tire Vs. Rim Width

Hello everybody!
I'm new to jeepin' and I just bought a 2.5"RC lift for my 97 TJ. Once I put that on I want to get some 31's for it. Will my stock rims fit a 10.5" wide tire? The rims are the 'Grizzly' ones 15X7. I remember seeing a thread about tire size to rim size, but can't find it again. Sorry in advance for the troubles.

Yeah that'll work good. You might have some minor rubbing issues when you have the steering wheel turned completely left or right, but overall you'll be in good shape with that setup.

Yeah, I have factory 15x7 rims with a 31x10.50R15 tire set on mine. And no lift. So you'll be fine.

You could probably put 32s or 33s on if you want, with that amount of lift. A 33x10.50 would look great.

I've been debating on 33's. I had a bronco with 33" Duratrac's and it did great in the sand and mud. I just didn't know if I would have enough clearance for them. Thanks for the tips.

You can fit 33s with a 2.5" lift.

What is your gear ratio?

Hello all, need help trying to decide what tires to buy with what size rims... I currently have no lift but plan on either a 3" body or 3.25" suspension lift my '03 wrangler, I would like to buy Mickey Thompson Baja claw Tc 33" 12.50 15, current rims are Dick Cepek 17", I would like the Mickey Thompson classic II I am having problems deciding on the rim size, not sure I understand what I should be looking at on the rim size, do you look at the surface area across the top? how do you determine this?

I haven't looked to see if anyone changed it, but I doubt it. So stock 3.07.

First of all, I would stay away from a 3" body lift.

Not sure exactly what you are asking about the rim size. There is diameter and width. The diameter must be the same as what the tire is designed for. So for 33x12.50x15 you would need a 15" rim. The width of the rim is measured from bead to bead. A 12.5" wide tire needs an 8"to 10" wide wheel usually. Manufacturer websites usually list the recommended rim width on the spec sheet

3.07 with 33" tires is pretty miserable.

Are you planning on regearing?

Was thinking about it. I don't know what ratio to use though. I was thinking 3.55?

If you're sticking with 33s, I'd go with 4.10.

Maybe 3.73 if you can find a deal on a set of factory axles already geared with that ratio.
