tire size and wheels

I would like to lift my 1996 JGC L eventually but for now I am having a hard time finding out what the largest tire and rim I can put on it without rubbing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

On a stock Grand Cherokee, I think 30 x 9.5 R15 is largest that will fit.

One more thing, I have 16" wheels on right now. You suggest 15's. What about the width of the rim. I was thinking 10" but not sure if that would be too wide. (spacers)?

16" wheels are fine. It's just the overall tire diameter that matters. Under stock suspension, I'd draw the line at 30". There are tire size calculators all over the web to help you convert that to a Pxxx/yyR16 size.

I assumed you had 15 x 7 wheels. I should not assume.

16" wheel is fine. Don't know what is largest metric size, but I know it's 30" tall.

I prefer 15 x7 or 16 x7 aluminum stock wheels for the tire size you'd be running which is approx 30 x 9.5 tire (or metric equivalent).
