Tire Opinions and Questions

People always have questions and opinions about different brands of tires and they look to other Jeep owers for information.

So..I'll start......

I'm looking for some new shoes. My Jeep is not my DD but it does spend most of its time on the road. We get a fair amount of rain, ice and snow so I want something that's good in all of those conditions. I will be off road some too. I really like the MT MTZ and the Cooper STT but they are a little more than I want to spend. I have heard a lot of good stuff about Mastercraft CT and MT.

What are your thoughts, opinions, and suggestions?

I like BFG AT too and hear great things about them but I would like something a little more aggresive.

You would be happy with the Cooper STT, and just to throw another tire at you look into the Toyo MT's I've had a set on my jeep for one and a half years now and they are wearing great still have 6o percent tread left and it's a daily driver.

The best compared to what? I think are plenty of tires out there that will out perform the BFG A/T in all sorts of driving stryles and terrain.

Because you work at a tire shop, that makes them the best, period? Funny stuff.

BFG AT's are middle of the road tires nowadays. 10-15 years ago, they were some good tires, but a few new tires have hit the market that are better than a BFG/AT. But they have the "BFG" name and therefore will always have their following. Kinda like the stupid "Bose" name. They're nothing special whatsoever, but they were 30 years ago and they're still fooling folks with the Bose name, living off their past.

Toyo MT's for me, baby. They're on my CJ7, my Dodge HD, and Toyo AT's are on the kids truck. Cooper STT are great tires too. Had 35's on the Yukon. The tread design is similar to Toyo's MT and may even be a reverse tread footprint.

There are better choices than a BFG AT today.

Out here I love my GY MT/Rs, but that is a lot of rock crawling on 12psi...usually I hear a lot of complaints about any MT (mud terrain or maximum traction) design in rain or snow.

Toyo A/T. For one example plus the Toyo A/T has way stronger sidewalls. There are several others that would be every bit as quiet.

Well, if that's your most important criteria for an A/T purchase....so be it. But you asked to show you one....Toyo A/T. More quiet than a BFG A/T, far easier to balance because the QC is better. But let me tell ya, their MT isn't much noisier than a BFG A/T. I have not heard any quieter MT than Toyo MT's.

BFG will always have their flag waving fans, due in aprt to the "BFG" name, but they aren't all that anymore. Too much competition.

TrXus M/T's! Great price, great looks, great performance. I have a set on my DD and I love them on the road, off the road, in the mud and on the rocks, in the snow, in the rain, on a train, with a fox, in a box.....wait what?
