They're on there now and from the top of the tire to the outer edge front wheel well it just looks like I've only got about 2 maybe 2 3/4 inches in between...This jeep ..and I think this is stupid considering the ad scheme they use of "Off Road" for this model back in 2001..but this jeep hasn't any front shocks. Just springs only!! So I'm just scared of hitting a bump too hard.

Are you sure there aren't any shocks. If there isn't, I'd get some pronto. They should of course have shocks. I had a friend with a XJ, stock height on 30" tires and it was pretty capable for what it was with no lift.
