shock question

Is it possible for shocks to wear before leaf springs? I've had a 95 Cherokee Sport for 3 months now and there is very little to no sagging in the rear, so the leafs seem OK. However, lately I seem to bottom out a lot going over potholes and dips, especially with people in the rear seats (this is on-road). The rear end feels soft, especially on one side. I don't think I should ever feel the bump stops when on reasonable pavement.

Does this sound like purely a shock problem, or is it shock and spring?

Also, should stock leaf springs (I have UpCountry suspension) be near flat? Mine bow slightly, but don't seem to be as elliptical as say most pick-ups. I'm trying to determine if I should start thinking about re-doing the rear end..

Springs are probably fine. Unless you have a lift they won't bow very much. Shocks need replacing.

yeah
shocks go out far more often than springs do. i would expect to replace shocks every 30-40k miles and springs every 150-175k or so unless you're a desert racer.. when i bought my rig the first thing i did was replace the shocks.. they were dead..
