Question about changing my wheels

I am planning on ordering some of the 15x8 Cragar Soft 8 wheels. I currently run a 15x10 wheel and a 31x10.5 tire. With a 2" RE BB and the 15x8 Cragars and 31x10.5 tires...am I going to be good to go? Will I need to order anything else to prevent rubbing? Thanks in advance.

Make sure the backspacing is 4" or so. Stock is 5.5" and you need to make sure the tire stays moved out a bit.

You'll be fine. That's the exact set up I'm running. I've got the soft 8s with 4.0" of backspacing with 31 X 10.50 MTs and the only rubbing I get is on the fender flare at full flex and some wheel turn. When I furst got my tires I had the stock rims and they rubbed the lower control arms at full turn. It wasn't a big deal, just back off a little bit and the problem was solved but it was annoying.

You'll like the set up.

The stock tires are 9.5" wide, mounted on a wheel with 5.5" backspacing. If he runs a 10.5" wide tire on a wheel with 5" BS, it will be in the same relation to the frame as the stock tires were. A 10.5" wide tire on a wheel with 4" BS is overkill.

The closer you get to 5" BS, the better off you'll be. You need to take into consideration how the new wheel and tire will mount on the spare tire carrier too. 5" BS would be perfect. But I think 4.75" is as close as you'll find.

He'd be fine with a 4.0" back-spacing. The tire will stick out farther than a stock rim but that's not necessarily a bad thing as it will broaden his stance and provide more stability.

However, there may need to be some adjustment to the rear rubber tire bumpers on the tailgate. But there are various ways around that. Such as picking up a spare set of the rubber spacer, cutting them down to a 1" height, gettin longer screws, and stacking his stock rubber spacers with the moddified ones.

Going from a stock 9.5" wide tire and 5.5" back spacing to a 10.5" wide tire with 4.0" of back spacing would necessitate a 1" spacer being added tot he rubber tailgate bumpers.

Plus, by running the 4.0" backspacing he can upgrade to a 32x11.50 tire to run with the 2" BB if he wants and still have plenty clearance. And he'd just need to add 1/2" spacer (cut rubber tire bumpers) to the tailgate.

Why do you think you're better off with 5" vs 4" BS?

That is the exact set up I have and I have no rubbing whatsoever. The spare fits fine also.. no adjustments were necessary.

A 15x10 wheel is way too wide for a 31x10.50 tire. The tire's 10.5" width is at its widest point half-way up the sidewall, not its natural bead width. That tire would have a heck of a time remaining securely seated on a 10" wide wheel if it were not fully aired up. For that size tire, I'd run nothing wider than a 15x8. 5" of backspacing is fine for that width tire.
