poor man's t-case drop

Say I wanted to keep $30 in my pocket, is it a bad idea to drop my t-case with an inch of washers and long 8 grade bolts? I can't see why that would be a real bad idea. They wont move, will they? Any reasons for me to NOT be cheap will be strongly concidered. Yes im that broke.

Anyone who pays for a an aftermarket t-case drop is crazy. Unless it comes with the suspension system you purchase save your money and do what you're doing - longer grade 8 bolts and washers. The great thing about stacking washers is that you can fine-tune the drop to your needs by simply adding or subrtacting the number of stacked washers. Most aftermarket t-case drops are 1" and non-adjustable. You may find through trial and error that you only need 1/2" drop or even 1.25" drop. Every Jeep is different.

its fine till you bang your TC drop on the rocks...I had spacers for TC drop and when I hit a rock the whole thing shifted bending the bolts and even the front mount in the frame, so I dropped 30 bucks on the skyjacker one and have been beating it on rocks ever since with not problems. But I'm hard on my jeep for a mall crawler or a light wheeler what you want to do is fine.

Question about the effects of a drop (or not dropping).

I did a susp lift in which the average lift around all 4 tires is between 3.5 and 4 inches. (The driver side is a little higher than the passenger side for some unknown reason)

Anyway, I really don't notice much driveline vibe; and the only place that I really notice it at any significant level is at 51 MPH.

Before that, and much past that, and it goes away and I can't even notice it.

I have been running this lift for about 3 months now, and since the vibes are not so noticeable, have yet to do a t-case drop.

Do you guys think I should do one anyway, even though the vibes aren't very strong?

Have any of you done a 3-4 inch susp lift and not done the tcase drop; and if so, what has been your observations over time?

Thanks for the replys.

In your case it sounds like you only need a very little bit of a drop and a couple of washers should suffice, I had vibes just like you describe when I only had the AALs in, and I just threw a couple washers in there and you should be golden.

you can pick up some thick walled tubing a little beefier than you would find at home depot for about 10$ for a peice of 1x1 stock a few feet long and drill and cut it to fit I used the stuff from home depot and it is just a little too thin for my likein

Yea, if you really tag it on a rock it can move-- bad idea. a small number of washers is okay, but I needed about an inch so I got the skyjacker. Shop the boards, lots of people dump them when they go SYE, I know I will this summer...

So far I put in the rear blocks, I have yet to put in the front spacers. But so far there is no driveline vibe. I don't even know if I'll have to drop the t-case, but in case I do, where can I find some "thicker than Home Depot" 1"x1" tubing? I haven't even looked around yet, so any suggestions?

Any machine shop or even an industrial supply or steel warehouse will cut it for you cheap. I'm spoiled, our town has a steel plant and about a thousand steel machine shops\warehouses that will go into the yard and torch off a chunk of just about anything and if it's small like these spacers they'll even do it for a smoke hehe.
