Old thread but one more question. Did you paint the backside of the rims as well or only the street side? They look great. Once my paint shows up I'll be doing this as well.

Another way to mask of what you don't want painted is to brush on something like vasoline with a small artist brush. Then just paint over it. It will wipe right off when you are done. The question is are you better with a paint brush or with tape and an exacto knife.

One advantage to the vasoline ...there is not any bleed through if the tape does not stick tightly.

Nah, I didn't paint the back side.

Have you used the vasiline method before?

I have used the vasiline method just not on wheels. I rebuilt an old delta unisaw table saw and used this method on all the internal parts. Once I was done painting I just wiped off the vasiline with a rag and no paint would stick in those areas.

What color would look better on my YJ? Black or gunmetal? The body is flat black primer. I know they're not ravines, but oh well.

I think I want to use the Duplicolor Shadow Chrome or something like that on the front grille to make it kind of black chrome. Any thoughts?

That's a tough call, but I say go black. The bit of chrome makes me say black.

I like the look of black too, but the next question is flat or glossy? I'm kinda leaning more towards glossy.

I just picked up some (extra) ravines that I plan to paint. How many hours should I expect to tape, prep (sand) and paint 4 rims?
