Need help on 33' tire recomendations... THANKS

Well I found and bought my 17x7.5 Jeep commander HULK rims I plan on mounting to my JK. Now need a set of nice tires. I want to run 33's.... I plan on getting some wheel spacers as well from spidertrax. Can I run 33x12.5 on rims that are 7.5 or am I asking for trouble. I have heard from many it is OK. Hoping to find a nice looking tread tire that drives fairly smooth on the highway....is this possible? Would love any recomendations on tires! Thanks
Steve

ideal would be 33x10/11ishx17 but think I maybe only to find 33x12.5x17?

Thanks again!

Go with LT285/70R17 tires.

They are 33X11.5. Works out great for the size you want and they're OK to mount on 7.5" wheels.

I'd suggest MT/R's as a good aggressive tire that has road manners too.

Those would be 29-inch tires.

Compared to a stock size it is a change from 629 to 617 rev per mile, or about 2%. (32.7" vs 32.1")

Is it worth the trouble? You essentially gain an inch of width - and that is not always an improvement for off-road capabilities, while gaining a fair share of rotating mass.

I would rather keep stock in this case, and only go up to at least 34" if upsizing.

Doesn't that open up a whole nother can of worms...

This stuff is confusing..... I want to go as big and tall as possible on these rims (17x7.5) while NOT having to add a lift... I will add spidertrax wheel spacers but that is all. Thought there were 32,33, 35's never knew there was a 34 and if so will it fit with no boost or lift.... what about 305/70 R17's? Will these fit and would these be considered 33's? Also are they 12.5 wide or 11+? I am literally dazed and confused here... sorry!

Thanks again, sounds like you know your stuff so really apprecaite the help....

305's are much taller tires than the 285.

I am going to dump the BFG tires on the first day and put on Bridgestone AT Revos in 285/70/17 size (about 33 in tall).

Personal and humble opinion: just keep riding stock 32", they are rather large, and will work and look just fine. When they wear out get 33" - 285/70/R17 - they shoud clear it. And do not worry about the tire size - it did look to me that you are only concerned about the looks, sorry if I have misinterpreted your confusion.

aren't they just a smidge bigger?

Not all about size I know but aren't 285's 70's only truly about .50 inches larger then stock? What do you know about the REVOS as thats the tire I am exploring as well. Do they come in black wall as all I saw was white letter options etc.... thanks

was hoping I could squeeze on 305's......hey is there a 295 in these?

Good points but here are my thoughts

Your 100% correct that would be the practical and right thing to do but these mods are not going to cost me much unless I lift. My hulk rims costs me 500 delivered (4) then tires if I go with revos will run me lets say 700 range.... thats 1200, if I can sell my stock 17's rims and tires package for 1000-1200 I almost break even and get the look I want plus a better tire then what comes stock in my thoughts. But I hear you, and agree with you.... and yes looks is a BIG part of my motovation but will not sacrafice poor ride quality trying to strike that balance with mods but no to much! Sounds like 285's is about max on my 17's unless I lft.... Man wish someone could tell me for sure if 305's in the Revos would not fit.... Thanks again for your feedback,,,,

That's true if the aspect ratio of both tires are the same.

305/50-17 works out to be about 30x12.00-17
285/70-17 is slightly smaller than 33x11.50-17

edit...sorry, I thought the 305 mentioned above was a 50. a 305/70 is going to be about a 34x12.00
