MT Baja Belted

I called a local dealer about the Baja Belted HP, I'm on the highway alot and I figured they would be a good looking DD tire. The sales guy scoffed at Mickey's in general, and said that particular tire wasn't even radial. and he didn't recommend them. Is he just trying to get me to spend more for something else. Are MT a good tire in general? I've only had BFG's. And what EXACTLY does radial mean and why is it so crucial???

Radial tires give you a better ride. The threads in the tire are perpendicular to the rim and all in the same direction, thus causing the "radial bulge." Bias Ply tires have threads that are biased to the rim and each susbsequent layer is opposite (think criss-crossed) providing more strength but less flexability. This causes a harsher ride. Radials also give you better traction because they flex more and give a larger footprint.
