Keep the MOABs or Replace???
Well, I have finally bit the bullet after several months of searching and decided to go with the OME 2.5" lift with the JKS 1.25" BL for my 06 LJ Rubi. Hopefully the lift will get here next week because I am anxious to wrench it on.
My dilemma is this. I really like the look of my stock 16" MOAB wheels, but I also like the look of a solid black wheel on the white Jeep. If I was to buy new rims, I would choose the 15x8 size with 33x12.50 tires. Unfortunately, five new rims would add a significant amount of cost to the project. From searching the forum on here, it looks I can get a 285/70R16 for my stock MOABs and they will get me close to a 33" x 11" wheel size without rubbing on anything. I am leaning really hard on keeping with the MOABs and going with a bigger tire, but I am sure some of you have opinions that may help me make a more informed decision. Also, if I were to have the MOABs painted/powder coated, would it hold up? What would a rough cost be to have this done? I appreciate all of your help!!!! ![]() ![]()

Keep the MOABS and go with the 285/75/R16. I run this same size on my TJ and am happy. With your rubbi flares the tires will sit underneath your rig keeping mud, etc.... from being thrown all over your Jeep. Best looking wheel ever put on a Jeep. I say keep them, or send me a PM with your bottom dollar price.

I say keep the Moabs. These are by far the best looking wheel for this vehicle. Unfortunately the 16" limits our choices. BFG KM2's in the 285/75 16 only come in E rated. I may go with the 305/70 16 just for the D rating.

Im gonna go ahead and say ditch the moabs and grab some black wheels that you like. While people will say black rims are overdone, they still look bad ***, Specially on white jeeps.

The Moabs are my favorite set of OEM wheels. A set of black beadlocks would look incredible on your jeep though...

Decisions,,, Decisions!!!!
I think that I am convincing myself more and more to just stick with the MOABs as is..... If I decide that I still want black wheels at a later date, going up to a 16" wheel from my preferred 15" wouldn't be that big of an issue. This way I could just swap the tires over to the new wheels. Thanks for all of the input!!!! |

You should sell me your Moabs cheap and go with MT Classic IIs or Black Soft's. But thats just my feeling.

Keep the MOABS and use the money saved to put somewhere else in your jeep. I kept mine and put 265/75/16 BFG AT on. I also have the OME lift, and it appears we have the same bumpers.
I would like it if the MOABS were a darker color, like the AEV wheels, my first choice if I were to replace my MOABS. |

You can usually get them powder coated for around $20 a rim.

$20 a rim? Places around here are like $80-100 per wheel...

I just got 285/75 16's BFG KM2's and I love the look and the way the drive. Tires barely rubbed when making tight turns so I put 1 washer on each steering stop and no more rubbing. Turning radius is not any less. Flexed it out and wheels tuck nicely under the fenders. Saved a couple of hundred on wheel spacers too.
