How big of a tire can I use with a 2" lift?
Looking at using a 2"BDS lift with RSX shocks. Will 33x12.5x15 tires work on 15x8 rims? Or should I go with 31x10.50 and use spacers?
I don't do much off roading, just want it to look more aggressive with a wider stance. Also, what is the largest tire I could use without the lift that wouldn't rub? I currently have 30x9.5x15 Thanks

TJ's can handle a 31x10.50 with no lift and have no rubbing. Its what I'm running now. im pretty convinced that with a 2" you could squeeze a 33x9.50 under there, maybe a 10.50, but i think you need another inch for a 12.50.

I like the look of 12.5's. Would spacers help? I would rather have the wide look then the tall look.

I was running 32s on a 2 inch lift. there was room for 33s, but not alot so i put a 1 inch body lift on and im gonna have 33s in a few weeks. As for the 12.5 inch width, just make sure your wheels have the right backspacing. I think 3.75 would work but i would double check that just incase.

you'll be fine w/ 33s on 2 inches of lift. My buddy has been running 33's w/ 2' spacers for about 2 years now.

BDS is a great lift and you will net 2.5" from the 2". I got 3.5" settled out of my old lift. They will fit fine, IMO add some 3/4" leveling spacers up front, helps out with heavy front parts and gives a little more room. I ran 35's on a 3" for almost a year and never rubbed. Proper bumpstops helps to. Get 15x8's with 3.75 as mentioned and you will be fine on the trails. Good luck

At what size of tire would I need to think about changing my gears?

That's where opinions differ. IMO if you can run 5.13's run them. 4.88's is the lowest for a D30. I re-geared to 4.10 from 3.07 and was the best money spent.
33's are livable I ran them on 3.07's for a year or so and was happy with it on and off road, But night and day when you do re-gear. Go for the 33's and start throwing money back when you can. I can hold 65mph with my 4cyl and rubi 245's but gears would help. Its all up to you, Its not a sports car anyway. Good luck

You can run 31s with no lift, buy wheels with 4" or less of back spacing and you can fit 33x12.5x15 with 2" pucks, as long as you don't disconnect your sway bars off road. If you disconnect your sway bars off road the 33s will eat your flares. With a 1" body lift you fit 33s and disconnect if you want. I would look at regearing 33s are ok with 3.07s, but barely. If you have a D35 rear you can upgrade to 4.10s by finding a 4cyl with a stick and using it's axles. If you have a D44 rear I would find a D30 out of a 4cyl stick, and regear the D44 to 4.10. If you want to regear both I would go to 4.56. If you are thinking of 35s at some point then 4.88s or a new front axle is in your future to go lower.

I have been doing a lot of research as far as tire size and lift size go. As RogueSpear said, as long as you don't plan on going disco'd with your sway bar, the 33's will fit. However, IMHO I think it looks better to have the proper size tire for the lift instead of the biggest tire that can be stuffed in there. I like getting articulation and not having to put bump stop extensions in so I have decided that I am going with 2.5" suspension lift with .75 spacer up front and a 1" body lift with 32/10.50 tires, and I should be able to stuff the tires in the wheel wells without a problem. Like I said it's up to you, but if you want to be able to flex the axle don't max out the tire size.
