Well, I did the horizontal measure, I honestly didn't think ride height made such a big difference. Measured out to 30.5. I feel like an idiot :

hahaha
I'm glad that we could get this straitened out. That sounds like a pretty typical measurement for a 31" tire. For some reason I thought you said 33s earlier. So I was a little concerned as well about your measurements.

Yeah, I'm content with 30.5 considering that is what is listed on GYs site. I just never thought of measuring horizontally....DOH!

FWIW I will be putting 3500 miles on my tires in the next few weeks as well as hitting Moab, and some of the more popular spots in Colorado. I am excited to put these tires to some use finally.

Isn't it funny how much numbers can affect our acceptance of something. Its the same tire it was before. It looks the same, it drives the same. But because the numbers now match your expectation you like them better. I'm sure when you first put them on you thought they looked great. Then when you measured you were disappointed because you thought they should be bigger. Then when you re-measured you were happy again. Even though nothing had changed. I guess its human nature, or at least American nature, to expect things to be what they say they are. I'm the same way. I think we all are. I'm not criticizing you or anything. Just pointing out how obsessed we can be about numbers. Especially with Jeep lifts and tires. I think its funny how someone will scream if their 3" lift only netted them 2.75" Is a 1/4" really that big of a deal? Probably not, but it sure can make us mad. I'm no different. I'll be bummed if my new BDS lift doesn't give me 2" of lift. Anyway, back to the Duratracs.

Please report back how they did on the sidewalls if you encounter some rock. This is my only concern with these rubbers. Otherwise they were worth the money though my next set will be swampers otherwise i'd still use duratracs .

They only serve to give away your next move, causing most NM drivers to speed up and not let you in. In fact, use of directional signals within most large NM city limits is actual illegal.[*]NM law states that at least 50% of all paved surfaces within the state must be under construction at any one time. In all construction zones, at least half of the available lanes must be closed, regardless of whether any actual construction is be accomplished or not. Construction signs shall be regularly repositioned in order to warn drivers about upcoming lane closures immediately after they pass the last exit before traffic backups.

I want some!!!

WOW.. I just finished reading and skimming all 67 pages!!!

I have a '89 Comanche and am in the market for tires. I am quite impressed with what I read and because of this I have 99% decided on the Dura-Trac's.

My only question is size... I built the truck with 33-35" tires in mind. but I don't really like a wide tire for this rig. So Its likely I'll sacrifice a bit of height and go with the 285x75x16. They are getting mounted on Ruby rims. My concern is the load rating and harsh ride...

I have been running 33x9.5x15 BFG MTs and recently got the ruby rims. (and tires) I threw them on to see how I liked the rims.. (Tires WAY too small.

I'll post up when I get them...

Just got back in the door. The tires did great and we did not have any problems. We ran every terrain you can think of (mud, snow, sand, and rocks)

I will post up all the pics in a report tomorrow and link it here for you guys to check out.

VERY pleased with these tires.

I've had mine on quite a bit of Southern Arizona rock and they've held up just fine. JP Magazine claimed that they're made of the same carcass as the old MT/Rs. If that is true, the sidewalls should be pretty durable.

I stopped at my Local GOODYEAR store.... I couldn't find one single tire you could call "off-road". . . Not one MTR, not one Dura Trac..nothing!

I got to the counter and told the guy what I was looking for. . . He gave me a price of 260 per tire.... mounting included but an additional 50 for the balancing and discard of the old tires. I told him I would be keeping the old tires and I didn't require balancing as I run Centramatics. He said take 25 off.... I asked him about his math and he answered someone has to pay for the mounting... I didn't bother to correct the genius...

I can get them from Tire rac or other online place for just about 200EA then an additional 100 for delivery. But then I would need to find a place to mount them. I've done many tires here in the drive way, but there are MTR's mounted... these are very hard to mount on a machine, let alone with tire irons in the drive way!!!

Gonna try SEARS and then the accursed Town Fair Tire...
