Rotate the tires and check pinion angles.
If you think its a U-joint you can check your driveshaft u-joints easily by feeling for any play with your hand, its usually noticable if there is any. The front axles u-joints can be checked a similar way just more work. But use your hand to feel the play, a lot of the time you cant see it, just feel it.
the MT/Rs are awesome in the rocks, but they are loud as hell.
