What pressure do you normally run on the street?

I've been running my Trxus M/T radials at 25 on-road, which seems to provide reasonably even wear across the tread. I go down to 7-8 PSI off-road.

Try the chalk method for finding optimal tire pressure. It is specific to your vehicle's weight, and because it allows you to verify visually that the tread zone lays flat on the road surface, it will be easy for you to gauge exactly the right inflation pressure.

I did that w/ the BFG KM's I'm now retiring, and I'm convinced that's a big part of why I still have one half of the tread depth on them after 41K plus miles.

One note though - it will normally be lower than what manufacturers recommend, and will drop your MPG, since it will increase rolling resistance. But, as I said, tread life goes way up to balance things out.

IIRC there is the be all, end all front end alignment thread around here somewhere where I believe the chalk method is discussed.

The "Chalk Line Test":
Draw a heavy chalk line across all the tread faces. drive slowly forward in a straight line for a few revolutions of the tire. Get out and observe the wear pattern of the chalk. If it has worn away evenly, then the inflation is correct. If either the edge or center of the line is worn first, then the tire is under or over inflated, respectively.

I used sidewalk chalk - it worked great.

Here's a look at the new kevlar MT/R in a 285/70/17 size. They are about 1/2" taller than the same size BFG KM's that they replaced.

Just got them installed on my new beadlocks today.

Nice choice, dude. What do they weigh? I bet they're like feathers compared to other beadlocks...
You're close by; we should tool around some time. I'd like to see how much better the tires will do aired-down on beadlocks....

Thanks, Hilldweller. Light weight was really what motivated me to buy these wheels. After the conversion each wheel weighs in at 27.5 Lbs, including bolts, washers, and valve stem.

I have been wanting to get a group to go to Beasley Knob sometime - maybe we could wheel there.

Goodyear Kevlar

Finally got a chance to try the new goodyear kevlars off road today. Went up and down some buttclinching hills, thru mud and over rock finally tried some sand on the way home. Have to say I am truely pleased with the tires, love the way they handled on the trail and off, really like the looks also. Running 32x11.5x15's. Got to take care of the 3.07 gear issue next. (Yes i know it is Florida but this was done at HardRock park which is an old rock quarrie)
