Building the jeep...what's next?
Ok so now that summer is here and I'm out of school for a while I picked up a second job to afford jeep stuff. So far I have got my 33's and the RE 4.5 SF kit is going on. I'm not sure what I should be looking to do next...It's my 98 tj which is my daily driver but I want it to be more than capable on the trails. Axles seem to be the next logical step but I'm not sure which axles would be the best to stick under there. I'm open to suggestions if anybody would like to give some input.

For 33's I would just go HP30 front from a XJ... For the rear I would do a Ford 8.8 from an exploder. Maybe some traction devices and 4.56 or 4.88 gears to go along with.

I must be missing something, because why would you go through the expense and work involved in an axle swap to end up with pretty much the same thing you already have? I'm not following this recommendation to swap from a TJ Dana 30 to an XJ Dana 30. I know, I know, low pinion vs high pinion, but so what, they're both Dana 30s.
If money is available for a significant upgrade go with a high pinion 9" front. If money is limited just put a lunch box locker in your front axle and re-gear it for the 33s.
The rear axle is more of a weak link than the front axle anyway, if you have the Dana 35. And if that is the case, I would recommend upgrading axles to anything but the Dana 35. First choice = Dana 60; second choice = 8.8; third choice = Dana 44.

HP30 = easy to get, cheap, and a direct swap for a TJ.

Yes, but he already has a D30 which is plenty for 33s. It's the rear you have to worry about if it's the D35. If not then your fine with that too. What are the specs on your Jeep, engine, tranny, gears?

I agree. IN fact, it sounds like you probably don't wheel real hard. So keep the stock axles for now. I ran mine for 2 years with lockers on 33s. Went through the Rubicon twice. I never broke anything. You probably won't either.
And leave your front axle alone. My goodness...

Thanks for the input...I was considering keeping what I have for now but I was told by the local shop I shouldn't lock them with 33's. I don't plan on running 35's because I hardly ever get a chance to go wheeling but hopefully that will change in the near future. My plan is to build everything up as strong as I can for now so I can avoid breaking things later when I don't have any money which would screw me pretty good since its my DD.

Well, it all depends on how big you want to go and what kind of wheeling you want to do with it. State that info and we'll try to help you from there with a better understanding on where you want to go and where you're comin' from.

Well for now just stickin with the 33's and superflex...only other plans for goin bigger in the near future are a BL and MML (maybe). When I do get a chance to get off road it's usually trails with lots of mud and just of little bit of rocks. I would like to get at the rocks a little more but like I said I just can't afford to start breaking things yet because I'm the typical broke college kid. Down the road I'm sure I will want to go bigger but only 35's probably (and a long arm kit ) I really appreciate the help fellas
