BFG MT KM vs. KM2

How do the new BFG Mud Terrain KM2's compare to the old KM's as far as traction, wear, handling, noise, etc.? I am looking at getting new tires soon & I want to go with 32" BFG MT's. Should I get the KM's now or wait for the KM2's? Is the new design really better? Also, will they be priced the same as the KM's? Any info or comments would be appreciated. Thanks...

the KM2's are good enough that they are now the military supplied tire for Humvee's

The KM2s are awesome. I haven't ever run the original KMs but I can tell you that the KM2s are quiet, wear well, ride nicely down the road and perform good offroad.

Intriguing...we were still running GY MTs when I left Iraq in December...

When do the more "normal" sizes come out for the KM2s? End of the summer, right? (by normal I mean something for a 15in wheel...)

They will start releasing the rest of the sizes currently offered in the KM tread pattern as KM2s on September 1st 2008.

well the military has a HUGE inventory we need to use up too. I remember in Iraq there were the old MTRs ALL OVER the place. In Afghanistan (this was like 3 months ago) there were PALLETS of 5 MTRs each all over in the wherehouse behind where I worked.

and I vote for the KM2's aldo. I've got the old KMs on my Cj and LOVE them, but I'll be getting the new ones for the CJ AND the burb

I haven't had a ton of experience with them, but I have ridden in a jeep that had them and they were very quiet and smooth. I've heard nothing but good things, also.

How's the on road tread life?

I'll have to decide between these and the At's.

well give you an idea on my CJ my 35 BFG MT's have been on it since 2001 and I've still got like 75% of the tread. NOW I do NOT do lots of HWY miles on her, but it is a DD I'd guess I've got between 30-40K on them.Hell the tire will dry rot out before I can wear them out. That's ONE thing I DO love about the BFG's they wear like Iron... NOW the KM2's have a different tread compound, so on them I'm not sure.. but I would expect them to wear like Iron too (just like the last 2 MT incarnations)

I've driven them in the rain and think they perform just fine in regular stop and go driving. I have not been forced to slam on the brakes on pavement yet so we'll see.
