Yeah they will wear faster. The mud kings I was running I estimated I would have gotten 25k. For decent traction off road that would probably have been 20k. All terrains last longer.

If your after a cheaper mud tire look at the Maxxis Bighorns. I have about 1000 miles on mine almost all road and am happy with them. No experience with BFG muds other than a friend got 20k on a set of 35"s before he replaced them with the same type/size.

BUy you a set of mud kings 31x10.5x15 they wear great are basically quiet and much cheaper than the bfg A/T's since you are mostly buying the name on them the mud kings are a generic tire made buy BFG they wear good go good off road handle nice on road my last set i got 53,000 miles out of them.

You get what you pay for!!!!!
If you are going to stay stock then buy a quality tire. BFG AT's are great tires for sure. The MT's are awesome as well, i ran 31x10.50's on my stock Ecco Wheels with no problems. I have now gone to 33's BFG MT's and still no complaints. The AT's are great tires and i have driven many vehicles with them. The only complaint i can think of is that you need to keep up on properly rotating them. BFG tires are soft (which is what makes them so great) and will wear uneven very fastly. A buddy of mine ruined a set on his Grand Cherokee very quickly because he didn't keep them rotated.

I am running Firestone Destination MTs (31x10.5) on my 2.25" BB'd LJ; but to be honest if they ever wear out (they are doing extremely well for a mud tire), I am thinking about going to BFG TAs. 95% of my driving is on the road, and in Texas the MTs aren't really as necessary. Sure, they do grip better than an AT; but I don't extreme wheel and for the smoother ride and better gas mileage, I think it'll be worth the change.

Cheers! M2

The metric sizing is actually: width in millimeters, aspect ratio (a percentage that can be used to find the sidewall height), and rim/bead diameter in inches. The sidewall height is found by taking the aspect ratio (in your example 60) and placing a decimal in front to become .60 and multiply your width by that.

The 31x10.50x15 would be read as overall diameter, width, and rim/bead diameter, all in inches.

Wow thats great!

I would like to point out I was just doing an estimate based off of the 5k I put on them, plus an estimate of what my friend put on them compared to the advertised tread depth.

I'm gonna have to go against the grain here and say NO to bfg at's. My TJ came with 32's on it from the PO and I foolishly put 31's on our cherokee. I hate 'em. They don't clean out in the mud and turn into racing slicks, and they are terrible in the rain on pavement.
My $.02.

metric vs standard.

15" Rim:
Standard (USA)-
31x10.5R15
31" tall, 10.50" wide

Metric-
these get tricky because the second number is the aspect ratio, which is a function of the tire width.
215/75/15
215mm wide
75% aspect ratio is the radius - so 75% of 215 = 161.25mm
the diameter of the tire is 2 x 161.25mm = so 322.5mm

BFG ATs are NOT for mud. Anyone who buys them expecting them to be a good mud tire is a moron. They have a mud tire for mudding. BFG ATs are great on rocks, gravel, sand, snow and ice. They're more of a 50%/50% street/trail tire...and the sidewalls are very durable.

BF Goodrich 31x10.5x15's all the way!!!

Went with 31's and love them! Will go with 33's BFG Mud Terrains in the next couple of years.

I put 50,000 miles on my 31X10.50 BFG ATs. Awesome tire for a stock TJ. You may have to back out on the steer stop bolt to prevent rubbing on the lower swing

Another vote for BFG ATs..... my stock LJ and wife's (now sold) Liberty both have them. Great on and off road.
There are better road tires, there are better mud tires, etc. but the BFG AT is the best "all around" tire out there IMO.

That only gives you the height of the sidewalls, to get the total diameter you still need to add the rim diameter.

So it would be:

(322.5mm / 25.4 mm/in) + 15 in = 12.7 + 15 = 27.7 in diameter.

I have BFG All terrain T/As 31x10.50. They look great and they are good for the minor wheeling I do with my jeep (driving thru the woods on dirt trails and going on the beach) Could be a little better in the mud but I still love them.
