I've seen liquid tire balancer for motorcycles but not for cars/truck tires.

Hahaha. Laughing at myself.
Water will freeze. Big chunk o' ice in the tire in the winter months. Duuuuh. But, there is liquid tire balancer: http://www.deltatiresealant.com/tire_balancers.php I bet RV antifreeze would work. Non-freezing, and has rust inhibitors so it would work on a steel rim. Plus, enviro-friendly if you lost a bead and 'spilt' some on the trail. Maybe i'll try that instead. |

Also after a lot of airing down on trails air is likely to burp out of the lip (water vapor will as well) Water by itself just seems like it would be too hard to regulate. Using some other type of liquid i assume would work, something that isn't so easily evaporated into the air. Also i can't imagine all that old nasty water sitting inside won't do the tire much good. |

Water isn't a good idea. You know those little motors with unbalanced wheels on them in that they use our phones and....personal vibrators? That's what your jeep would be like x4 when it gets below 32.

anti-freeze is a pretty good idea! prally the same weights as with bb's or beads...
I'm just wondering how easy it is to re-seat a bead? I want to do this to try and balance out some old Interco thornbird 31x12.50's...

Anyone had any luck getting a shop to put the Air soft pellets in for them during the mounting process?

just use antifreeze!!
remove the valve core. squirt the water in using a syringe or rubber ear bulb ETC...... your done at almost no cost. start with 5 ozs and then put in more if needed. IT will NOT evaporate in the tire. no beads to buy, no shops to deal with. no damage to steel rims. If some company packaged up some antifreeze with a syringe applicator and sold it as a "dynamic tire balancer" for 10$ a shot, people would buy it and be raving about it on the boards. |

A google search for "liquid balance tires" shows several products. I wonder if the tire manufacturers approve of liquid balancing?

depends on the shop for liability reasons most likely Quote:
I don't see where having shops to deal with is an issue, you still have to get them mounted somehow. You can deal with putting the BB's in later. I also see BB's as a cheaper option than antifreeze. You can re-use BB's everytime you do a tire change. Good luck getting the shop who un-mounts your tires to want the hassle of dealing with the anti-freeze. Quote:
I just weighed the whole jar out on a bathroom scale, and split them up from there just by guessing. It won't hurt to put in a little more than needed. |

8 ounces is 227 grams.
The standard brass BB's (Crossman Copperhead's from W-mart) are 5.28 grains each. This is 0.342 grams each. Then you are looking at 227g/0.342g or 664 BB's (give or take one for my rounding during calculation). This also can be back calculated to say that a brass BB weighs approx 0.012 ounces. Have fun with THAT one if you dont have a scale!!! ![]()

What happens with the steel BB's when you have a blow out going 70 MPH down the highway? I'm thinking of doing this, but would go with the airsoft media instead for this very reason.
