4inch lift shock problem

i have recently put a 4inch lift on my 1981 cj7
i did the back first with no problem
then i did the front and i could not get the shocks on
from one bolt on the leaf spring to the other bolt on the frame measures 24inches and my shocks are only 22inches maximum

any advice would be appreciated

It looks like you may have a late '81 cj as they changed the lenth of the shock. I'm going of memory here but I believe there is a 3" difference at the front and a very small difference in the rear shock.
Best to check with your supplier as there is definately a change around 1981/1982
