3" XJ lift, shocks?

I am putting a 3" lift on my XJ. Two pairs of 1 3/4 spacers up front, and 3" blocks in the rear. I'm not planning on doing any major off-roading. Mainly just mud-puddles and the very rare rock-climbing to burn time. I have replaced the factory shocks, but they are still factory specs. Will I need to replace my shocks, and if so what kind should I get. I like the ES3000 Pro Comps, and they have a nice price, any suggestions?

i replaced my shocks in my xj a while ago. after i got home, i realised that i forgot to mention the 3" lift to the Pep Boys guy. i decided to try them anyway, and they work fine.

The Moral Of The Story: it should work with factory-size shocks, but check to be sure.

anymore input?

like he said, the factorys MAY be ok, cross your fingers. if it is having any thumping noise go Rustysoffroad.com and get a set of his 3" shocks or spend a little more money and get Bilstein shocks through him. ...
Since there is no major offroading Id stay away from the adjustable Rancho 9000s unless you want control of your ride, but it takes some work to set them!

You can always buy the shock extensions sold at pepboys for about $5. I put two spacers on top of one another and could not get the caster settings correct. Removeing the factory isolaters solved the problem. The three inch blocks may be too much with out a SYE kit or t-case drop.

Well, this 3" lift was just gonna be my base lift. And pretty soon I was going to buy the JCW rough country kit, for a total 6" lift. So I know I will need shocks then, would the best bet be to buy the shocks that I would need with a 6" lift now? Or just make my shocks last on this 3" lift, and buy the 6" shocks when I actually get the lift?

check your rear sway bar for clearence against the inside of the tire. It can get really close. you might want to consider shims 2 degree for the rear axle

Fabrication? I have spacers and blocks in the rear now, for a 3" lift. The JCW kit has 3" coils, and an AAL, for 3" lift. So with the JCW kit, and the spacer/block kit, thats 6". I don't see where the fabrication comes in. Yea, the T-case drop, and some shims, thats about it as far as I know.

Call Rubicon Express for items needed for a 6" kit. For sure a ajustable front trac bar, steering arm, brake lines, bump stops, and most importantly upper and lower control arms. For the back a aal and three inch blocks will allow it to sit level. You will need a SYE kit because the original drive shaft is not long enough besides the vibration is terrible

I cant believe you think you can run 6 inch lift with no additional parts other than springs and spacers. And as far as the back, be prepared for the vibration to shake your teeth out. I'm glad I will not be driving on the same streets as you.
