2004 wrangler tj

I have a 2004 wrangler se (tj) with 17" rims and stock height. Currently I'm running 245/65/17 on it but want to put some mud tires on it. I called a local dealership and they said that the biggest that I can run without spacers is 33, but in the research that I have done, most say nothing bigger than 31. I called a tire shop and they told me 265/70/17 is the biggest, then another told me 275/75/17 would be the max without rubbing.
I'm looking at cooper stt's because I can get a discount on them through a friend.
My problem is that I don't know for sure what the max size is because of varying info. I know that I can use the search function, and before anyone chews my butt, I'm using my iPhone with a cracked screen, so scrolling and searching are not possible, unless I want to look like that guy on the phone commercial with band aids all over my fingers.
Can anyone help me out here?

31's are the max without any modifications. I'm running 31x10.50R15s on my '04 TJ.

My problem is 17" rims. It's hard to find a 31 in that size.

Here's a good converter for you.

http://www.onlineconversion.com/tire...conversion.htm

Those 265/70/17's are roughly 31.5 inches tall.

The 275/70/17s are roughly 33 inches tall.

and here's another, with a helpful chart going down the page so you can see multiples at once.

You should probably be looking for a 255/70R17 = 31.1X10R17 or 265/65R17 = 30.6X10.4R17
