33's, no lift, no rubbing.

A 32" tire is the norm afte installing a 2" coil spacer front and back.

I took them off when I had my 31's... I'm not a big fan of flares. The nice thing is though, with the sway bar connected, and fully stretched out, it STILL doesn't hit the fenders... disconnecting is a whole other story.

After all the comments I've read about 33x12.50's on stock TJ's, I expected to have some serious rubbing... but they fit, and don't rub. Which means one of two things...

1. Everyone else just talks about rubbing w/o actually having tried it.
2. I have a lift and don't know it. My shocks and springs appear to OEM and have the little Chrysler stickers on them so I assume it to be stock.

Either way, you can drive around with 33's w/ flares no problem. If you try to stretch it out a bit, you'll start eating up the flares, but never touch the fenders as long as you stay connected.

With proper bumpstops you can run 33s with a 2" BB, 32s are the norm, if you add a 1" body lift though you can run 33s with out a problem. I run short 33s with just a body lift, flat flares, .75" spacers up front and proper bump stops.

You could do what I did. I ran 33 X 11.5 R16 (285/75R16) tires for a year on a stock Rubi LJ with no rubbing on road, and no rubbing offroad either (though I didn't disconnect).

I did this by changing flares to Warn 7" wide flares. A 7" wide flare (maybe a 6, but for sure a 7") will clear the tires because the flare is wide enough that the outside edge of flare that drops down is not above the tire.

This is (IMO) better than removing flares because it doesn't allow rocks to fly up and hit your paint or other cars, and is a considerate solution to other motorists, and is legal.

In most states it's not legal to remove flares.

=====

Removing flares, or putting on a wider stock type flare (like Warn or Omix Ada), or a tube fender, will increase tire clearance by about 1" to 1.5". That's free lift (free in regard to not raising COG).

I prefer a wider stock type flare because this improves mud and gravel retention within fender (less flying debris) hitting your Jeep and other peoples' cars. The other two options increase flying debris. They all increase tire clearance a lot.

With wider flares (like my Warn 7") the tire won't touch the flares even if disconnected and articulating. The wide flares have more clearance than the fenders themselves.

Whilst that may be true, I'm not a fan of plastic flares, so 7" wide plastics, are just that much worse IMO.

Keep in mind though, I don't really have to deal with mud here, so a flare isn't really necessary on the trails unless running through shallow standing water at slow speed.. then you get soaked.

I'm running a 2'' BB on my TJ with wider flares and 33's...no issues I can find!

I'd love a nice 4'' lift but it's not in the budget, also 33's are the minimum in my book so it all works nicely.

DISCLAIMER - my TJ is primarily a DD so I don't go offroad too often

Agreed . Depending on the backspacing of your wheel, you may experience some minor rubbing on your front lower control arms or your rear spring/coil perches. The front LCA rubbing if minor, may be resolve with a washer or 2, on your steering stops.

I have 33x12.5's on 15x8 soft 8's with 4" BS. 2" BB. I don't go offroad often. Not much room to flex, but it isn't a problem for me since I don't push it. This is what it looks like....

My Warn flares are poly and look good. Actually, they look stock to most people (because my tire on 4.5 BS 8" wide rim) sticks out an appropriate amount).

If you're flare was wide enough, you'd gain 1" of uptravel before tire rubber fender (tire would never rub a wider flare).

Then you could push it more, but you'd still need about 1.5" bumpstop extension, IMO.

Because even though you're tires wouldn't hit a wider flare, they would hit the front fender itself, if you pushed the envelope offroad while disconnected.
