Thank you for taking the time to listen.

I loved the styles of the 2004-2006 Unlimited. The newer versions seem too square, too bulky and have too much cheap looking plastic. Is there any chance of going back, maybe taking in from the past? Maybe even some more color options!

Thank you!

The shift points are terrible on the 03-06 TJ/LJ 42RLE. 42RLE owners frequently experience sluggish shifts and worst of all - Overdrive kicks in at 45mph in stock configuration. Shifting into OD at 45mph results in the 4.0L dropping to 1200-1300 rpms, bogging down and looses speed, then downkicks into 3rd, re-gains speed, then shifts back into OD at 45mph. It will do this all day long with or without the cruise control on. By shifting manually, I've determined with 3.73s and 30s or 31s, 2nd gear should hold until 38-39mph, 3rd should hold until 52-53mph, and OD should only engage above 55mph. While driving mixed city/highway at 45mph, with OD disengaged (3rd gear), I get 20-22mpg verified via old fashioned calculations and using a ScanGauge II, but I get 15-17mpg at 45mph with the constant lugging of the 4.0L in Overdrive (4th gear). In this case, more RPMs = less engine load and less throttle input required to maintain the same speed.

Can you please provide new programming to address the terrible shift points of the 42RLE?
Unfortunately at this point there probably won't be a TSB for this. When we decided to switch from the old 32RH and offer overdrive, we had to make a decision on a transmission that would offer that feature, survive in the usage that the vehicle will see, and not add to much to the price of the vehicle. While it wasn't perfect, the 42RLE was the best choice based on the parameters and available plant capacity. Also understand that the way EPA tests fuel economy (or the way they did then) favors a transmission that shifts up quickly and has a fairly deep overdrive, so it helped us with our EPA fuel economy numbers.

The only thing I would say is that changing the axle ratio can change this characteristic....

It's really cool that you're taking the time to answer these questions, so I'm just posting in a sweet thread.

And if possible, could you please explain the purpose of track bars on the YJ, specifically the rear track bar.

Thanks for being here!

Q. What is the reason behind the 2d passenger seat flip and fold not being nearly as efficient as the TJ's

Is this being corrected? Possibly a customer installed kit through Mopar?

While we hear you and understand your desire our research shows that most customers are not willing to pay the $5000 premium for a diesle in a Wrangler therefore it has been decided not to offer it. Keep asking one day it may happen.

If you need help with this, I'm a Cummins engineer, but willing to relocate!

BTW, I also got tired of waiting, and putting a Tier3 4-cylinder in my TJ now!

Is there a way to turn off the ESP permanently. And kill the lights on the dash. That dang ESP almost got me killed twice. That is the stupidest thing ever. I know I can turn it off every time I start it but is there a way to maybe reverse it, where it is always off and I can turn it on with the button if I were to ever use it (which I wont).

I don't want to complain, but, the trailer that I tow has a dry-weight of 2,200lbs and when loaded is probably still well under the 3,500lb mark. The trailer tows well enough with a tail-wind and going downhill. Any up-hill travels and I am shifting down on the 6-speed till I am travelling at 30 - 35mph.

Picture of Jeep with trailer (water-tank empty) parked in Radium HotSprings, BC.

Hi - I recently purchased a used 2004 TJ Wrangler with 64K miles. The previous owner does not seem to have been the best at preventative maintenance. I am having to replace both the front and rear drive shafts due to issues with the U-Joints. They seemed to have had very little if any grease in the bearings in them. On the rear it seems as if it might be possible that the exhaust mayhave cooked the grease out of them.

How often / under what conditions should the u-joints be lubricated? is this something that is easily identified during a normal inspection, or is it hard to identify?

Thank you,

Thank you for your input. Because we've listened to our customers and made the hard top multi-piece and very flexible to use, there can be occasions when the freedom panel is accidentally dropped or otherwise scratched when handled. We included the freedom panel storage bags with every top to increase convenience for our customers but they'll also help protect against such accidents. And we're continuing to look at more ways to enhance our unique Freedom Top.

People on here have said the new color "Surf Blue" for 2010 has already been discontiued. If so, why, people on here really seem to like it?

On another note, thanks for answering our questions. Please never bastarize the Wrangler like so many other manufacturers have their vehicles. Always offer crank windows, manual transmissions, removable doors, solit axles, ect.
