My TJ also does this. About 60% of the time. Very odd.

And thanks for the Q&A!

When a vehicle is at full lock it takes more power to move forward than when the wheels are pointed straight. The engine will need more fuel to keep the it from stalling. The surge you feel is the push of fuel to maintain engine speed under full lock conditions.

That said, although while it may not be recommended - if someone WERE to tap into the brake wire "hot side" so that their trailer brake controller would work, and if one found trying to access that wire under the steering wheel too painful and difficult (ask me how I know), where could one find the appropriate wire under the hood? What colour and where is it, and picture would help (: Rumour is that it can be tapped over there, rather than under the steering wheel.
Thanks a bunch!

Do not modify the brake wiring....
We will not help on this one.. sorry.

Ok...it's a fairly rare occurence, but we have seen a few do this even with the stock intake system. We did issue a TSB for a similar condition on 3.7L, TSB # 09-001-07, you can perform (or have your dealer perform) the same procedure on a 3.8L. Essentially what is happening is that as air passes over the joint/seal in between the throttle body, if there are any voids at all in that joint it creates noise. Essentially the TSB shows you where to judiciously apply RTV in that area to fill in any voids.

Thanks so much! I knew that there was a logical reason for it

Fair enough.
The only things holding me back from buying a wrangler are - no v8 option (I love the 5.9 v8 in my ZJ and don't think I would be happy with the v6), no long wheel base 2 door option like the LJ.

I'd simply like to add.... V-8. Please. Burnsville off road is doing it with no problems. AEV-conversions is doing it with no problems. I'm ready for DC to start doing it.... w/ warranty of course. It's the only reason I haven't sold my TJ yet. I love the JK's but I'll patiently wait for that V-8 to make that next purchase. To hell with the "economy" & "no-one would buy it" remarks that some members are going to post.

No official fixes.. baby it.
Sycros wear out. Let it spool down a bit before shifting into next gear

Tires have been checked and balanced, alignment done two times. Most recent numbers are caster 4.25, toe 3/16, BUT camber -1 and -3/8 which got me thinking about bent axle as well. However I've been told that camber will have no influence on this issue, and those numbers are pretty common even if out of factory specs. I doubt it would be possible to bend axle with stock tires with only mild off-road (forest service roads and such)?

Next I would look at the upper control arm bushings and the steering stabilizer.
