To reinstall the hardtop use the procedure in the owners manusl - it is a small thing but clamping the freedom top panels on in sequence will help with the seal. And keep the leading edge of the top underflush with the windshield header.

Bob,
I do not believe that there is an extended warranty offer for the exhaust manifold. You may call the customer service number and ask the same question.

The 4.0L was derived from the 1964 Rambler inline 6 engine. Back in the 50's/60's it was fairly common for 4 and 6 cylinder engines to have both the intake and exhaust on the same side of the cylinder head. It was probably done to help fuel atomization back in the days of carburetors, but of course it became unecessary with the advent of fuel injection. The bottom line is that the engine worked well as is, so there was never any need to change it to a cross-flow head.

Thanks for correcting my mistake on the exhaust manifold - you knew what I was thinking. Anything on the heads? They also seem to have issues in the '00 MY.

Thanks again! I should have clarified (I'm now at work, and double checked in my JK on the way), that the clunking sound during shift operation - is when I "Press" the clutch in - NOT releasing it. I can simulate half the clunking, when the vehicle is stopped - engine running, handbrake on, switching between the gears - and feathering the clutch in and out.

In summary, the clunking sound is shift operation - only from 2nd gear to 3rd, 3rd to 4th, etc. For whatever reason - there is little to no clunking from 1st to second?

Flat towing can be done with the t-case in neutral and the trans in any gear. you do not want the output shaft on the transmission turning as it will not get splash lubed.

Have a quick question... I have an 04 tj x and there seems to be grease (?) leaking from the back of the front axle where the drive shaft connects to it. I have very little knowledge of axels. Is this normal or is this a serious problem? How can I stop it?

Are you guys familiar with the liner from Off Road Heroes for the hard top JK? It reduces noise and heat gain but is available for the roof only. Something for the rear and sides would be welcome.

As far as the Gentex mirror goes, I kept the one from my '04 TJ when I traded it in and installed it in my 07. With wiring diagrams for both vehicles, I was able to get it all working perfectly except one thing- having the map lights come on when the door is opened or when the interior lights are turned on (the map lights work fine, but they have to be switched on independantly).

There is a YL/WT wire that runs to the footwell courtesy light, but this makes the map lights come on opposite (lights off, map lights go on, lights on map lights go off). Is there a way to wire this so that they will light up together.

Why won't they just open up the options list and give us what we all want and are willing to pay for?
CAFE drives many of the decisions we have to make....since the Wrangler has always been "aerodynamically challenged" we had to balance the powertrain offerings to make sure the vehicle doesn't reduce our CAFE fleet average.

Bob, again I would have to direct you to the customer service line. If there is any type of extended warranty, the customer service folks would be the best source of info.

I do not think we will be going to a real black interior. The dark slate works well. The true black would be way too hot in the sun!

Good suggestion on the mirror
