Ordering for the 2008 models opens up in less than two weeks. You introduced the 2008 Grand Cherokee at the NY Auto show in April, but as is typical there are never any decent images in your press releases, usually what we get is pictures of one model all the same color. Surprisingly missing were pictures of the new interior which I was told at the show we wouldn't see them until June - are the interior images close to being released?

Since the availability of downhill assist for the WK has been announced for the '08 model, can you give us performance specs compared to previous models? Like are crawl ratio of ___ compared to ___?

Retrofitting QDII onto a QT1 Vehicle

Hello!

It would be possible to retrofit QDII into a QT1 vehicle only if the vehicle were equipped with Electronic Stability Program (ESP). The QDII system utilizes the same sensors that ESP uses: yaw rate, steering wheel angle, and all four wheelspeeds.

In addition to the T-Case and ELSD's, you would have to install:

- Final Drive Control Module (FDCM) which installs under the rear seat
- T-Case shifter which installs behind the transmission shifter
- All wiring between the FDCM, Shifter, T-Case, ELSDs, power feeds, and CAN communications bus.

All this is possible, but very involved. The wiring would be the most difficult part in my opinion.

Thanks for the question!

Thanks for your interest
Thanks, and I am very interested in the WK CRD. I hope it does very well (it ought to... diesel near me is 60 cents less a gallon!). Please make a note that there is interest in the CRD on the Laredo as well.

P.S. Is their a lawyer watching what you type? (I work in corporate marketing... ha ha)

DRL for JEEP

However, I believe in Daytime Running Light (DRL) and 07 does not have it, I have to turn on all the lights so I have something. I believe that is a waste of lights. I went to the dealer and they had no idea how to turn them on they tried with the scan tool but could not find the setting good for them.

Two Questions; why dont Jeep offer DRL in the USA? Second how can I get them turned on? I have to believe it is a software switch and all Jeep has it but it is only activated on foreign sales - Jeeps.
I would appreciate any help on the subject.
Thank you

Hello Bill,
Thank you for question. I understand your request and the usefulness of this feature. You are correct that this feature is available in other countries because it is a country specific requirement. We are currently investigating the feasability of enabling the U.S. dealers to activate this feature upon customer request. Stay tuned.

Thanks,
Brian

i saw a pic for the 2008 WK and was curious if we get the rear fogs or am I to take from the que from the taillights and guess that this is just a export grand cherokee being tested in MI.

also can you buy a export grand cherokee taillight assembly and put them in a WK just fine? I'm sure you can but was just curious as the export older WG had an extra bulb in there.

just a note, I like the 2008 refresh so much I would just like to tell you that. although I will never trade my WJ in, the 2008 with the features like the removable lower valance for wheeling itch me closer to getting my 2001 WJ a sister in the garage. keep them 4 wheel friendly

Hi, Thanks for taking time to respond to forum questions. I have an '06 GC Ltd Hemi (first Jeep) and love it.... I've got the on/off road GoodYear SRA factory option tires and would like to like to step up one size.

Not all tire companies make the 245/65 R17 size, so can I step up to 255/65 R17 or 255/70 R17 tires without creating any problems? Do I need to have the speedometer recalibrated at the dealer? Anything else to consider?

PS: Build the TrailHawk - I want one...

Hill descent control does not change any hardware that would affect crawl ratio or anything else mechanical, it just uses the brake system to control downhill speed in low range if the driver activates the system. Details of operation and specifications are not available to the public until September.

A lot of 2005-2006 owners would love to have the rear camera feature that was introduced in the 2007 models. One owner bought the 2007 version REC nav radio, the camera and all wiring harnesses, and hooked it up exactly as the '07 diagrams show - but no go, the camera image will not display. Is this something that would be impossible to retrofit or can something in the Bus system be programmed?

I found this info on one of the Jeep enthusiast websites:

Hill Ascent control assists the driver when starting a vehicle from a stop on a hill by maintaining the same level of brake pressure the driver applied for a short period of time after the foot has been removed from the brake pedal. The system will release the brake pedal in proportion to the amount of throttle applied. If the throttle is not applied within a short period of time after the foot has been removed from the brake pedal, Hill Ascent Control will release brake pressure.

Hill Descent control allows a smooth and controlled hill descent on rough or slippery terrain without the driver needing to touch the brake pedal. This system applies the brakes to each wheel individually when needed to reduce forward motion while negotiating down steep grades

Unfortunately, we do not offer rear fog lamps for the US market. It would be quite a task to add them or the export tail lamps as the US vehicles don't have the necessary wiring or switches to operate them.

I'm pretty sure your WJ is looking for some company.

It won't harm anything, however it will decrease your fuel economy because you won't have the use of 5th gear.

The MDS calibration is based on the torque required to maintain the speed. The operating range has been expanded so later models may get into MDS more than earlier models. For 2007, under ideal conditions, you may experience it as low as 20 mph and as high as 75 mph on level ground.
