PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

This Q/A Topic: Jeep Commander

· Direct your questions to the JeepEngineers team

· Let the JeepEngineers team supply the answers

· Keep all questions on topic and related to the Jeep Brand. Off-topic posts run the risk of being removed by forum moderators

· Limit each post to one question. This makes it a lot easier for us to manage during the session and a lot easier for readers to digest afterwards.

· Review existing posts to avoid repeat questions.

· Questions aren’t answered in order of post; you’ll need to allow some time for us to respond.

· There is no need to repost a question. At the end of the session, we check for unanswered posts. An answer will be posted in reply IF the question is on topic and is not redundant.

· If you have something to say to one another we ask that you communicate via PM or within another thread discussion.

· We can’t answer questions regarding Specific Dealer concerns or Future Products

· We’ll do our best to help, but we are not always able to diagnose specific vehicle issues over the internet

was lifting and large tires and off-roading taken into account with the design of the commander?

The horsepower for 2008 is exactly the same as 2006 - there was no change.

According to the Jeep Press release for the 08 there is more horsepower and the MDS kicks in sooner, the same was said in 4 wheeler, and car and driver as well. Is this misinformation to push the 08's out?

Offroading was of course taken into account, it is a Jeep after all! As with the WK though, we specified a range of tire sizes for the different models/trim levels, but we dont specifically build a vehicle with the intent to put much larger than stock tires on it without modifications....this is where Mopar and the aftermarket step in to meet the needs of customer who "want a little more" so to speak....

QuestionImpact (accident)

Recently, my son was driving his Commander on a residential street. He was traveling at approx. 12 mph while turning a corner. He was hit near the right rear bumper by a car driving approximately 25 mph. The impact flipped the Commander over 3 times, landing on the passenger side of the vehicle. No airbags deployed. Why was the vehicle so easily flipped, and why no airbags? What should my son do now?

There is more MDS operation, but there was not a change to the horsepower rating. We are unaware of any press release that indicated a change in power. Our website correctly indicates that the 5.7 is rated at 330hp/375lb-ft of torque. Unfortunately the calibration from one year is not compatible with another year.

The 4x4 Commander has a C213R (Corporate 8 1/4). The ring gear diameter is 213mm or about 8 3/8". It is a full floating design which means that the axle shaft doesn't carry the weight of the vehicle - it has a unit bearing at the wheel end. The ELSD version with QuadraDrive II has the torque capacity of a locking differential.

The suspension design is a 5-link which includes 4 control arms and a track bar.
