ZJ - WJ General questions

Hi, Folks;

I guess I'm an outsider, but improving. This summer I bought and built up a nice XJ, and now that I'd driving it I realize just how small the thing is. I'm a dog handler with a volunteer search and rescue team, and I have to carry people stuff and dog stuff; and three dogs during the workweek. This ain't gonna work much longer when the pup gets bigger.
So I was thinking of selling the XJ and getting something bigger to build, like guess what? What I need are a couple of dimensions for both ZJ and WJ, if anyone is so inclined to go out to their driveway with a tape measure...
I need the floor width between the wheel wells, and the length of the floor from the folded-down rear seat back top to the closed rear hatch.
I removed the rear seat's bottom so the back would lay flat. I assume the same would be true on the bigger cousins?

Also, I've had the 5.9 ltr in my old Durango (rear seal leaked at 20,000 miles -- was that way when I sold it at 85,000). This may cause an explosion, but I'd like to get opinions on the 5.2 vs. 4.7 -- like for towing a bass boat in hilly country.

Help me make my decision!

Thanks;
Dave P., Southbury, CT

The rear seats will fold flat as long as you have the front seats moved up enough. But if you need that room, the seats just lift out very easily. Both the 5.2 and 4.7 are good engines.

Check out www.wjjeeps.com for the dimensions on the WJ. The WJ is slightly bigger then the ZJ anyways I believe plus it doesn't have the spare tire inside taking up space.

Thanks guys; lots of info.
Not as much response about the engines as I would have thought, though!

Dang. Wish I'd sold the YJ sooner. An ad showed up here listing a gorgeous '04 white SE with 86,000 on the clock.

The engine debate has been beat to death...both are good engines. The 5.2 will have more mods available to it if that is what you're after.
