ZJ has ABS light on

Hey guys, the ABS light in my '95 ZJ won't turn off. I just picked this Jeep up, previous owner replaced the pads and triggered the light though the ABS works fine. I'm assuming it's an ABS sensor. Are there sensors on each corner? What's the best way to test each one to figure out the faulty one? Are they universal or is there a different part# for front/left, front/right, etc.?

Thanks!
Stefan

could be air in the fluid or sensors off, the sensors are at the hub, pointing at the axles tone rings.

i had issues with my abs light after muddy wheeling, all i did was clean of the sensors and tone rings with brake cleaner. and there is one at each corner. have you checked dtc's? or code reader?

I have had a problem with ABS light twice in 13 years that I have had a 94 ZJ. 1st was the fuse contacts were dirty, cleaned & worked well for 9 years now. 2nd was the connector to ABS module under hood, cleaned and worked well for 4 months now.

jabsther,

How did you clean the module? Did you take it out and clean it?

On my jeep the abs light has been on all summer. Took it to brakes plus to pull the code and it came up w/ code "30 - Pump circuit open/defective" or something like that.

I cleaned the sensors and flushed the brakes Friday night with power bleeder and the light did not go off.

I can brake easily so I am guessing the pump is still working. Otherwise, I will not have power brakes. Someone correct me if I am wrong on this.

The pump would not effect power brakes, two different systems the power brakes is the vacuum booster. The ABS pump is what "pulses" the brakes so they don't lock up. the easiest way to test this would be to brake very hard on ice, and if the pedal vibrates and the wheels do not lock up its fine. (Get some to check out side the vehicle) But i depends where you live, if you get ice in the winter

I cleaned the connector with electrical contact cleaner. PB from autozone or WD40 will work too, just spray it on the contacts and let it sit for a while (might need to vacuum up any remaining). Also check with a thin blade screwdriver that the contacts are not too loose.
