If you don't want to pay the price of the bumpers on the market, you're gonna have to make your own. The price of steel/time required to fab a bumper is going to make everything you find thats worth a crap at least $400.

Here's a custom bumper my friend built for his ZJ...to give you an idea of whats possible.

this bumper minus the grill guard and light guards.
its basic, not bulky, holds the winch in instead of on the bumper and its cheap.

Where did you get that bumper? I love it! I hope they make it for the 96-98 ZJs since of the new grille.

That bumper looks like the Iceland offroad bumper but heavier duty. Nice job!

"" and whats with almost every home made bumper looking way too massive and disproportinate? ""

My "excuse " is - ease of winch installation & access to it, protecting the winch, and air flow to trans cooler & radiator. I set the push bar forward more than I really wanted to for the winch "servicing" but it also helps with the gates I don't want to get out to open , and pushing the mud boggers back to the pits with some clearance from the front of the Jeep, and it does wonders for those shopping carts in the way

Without the push bar it is actually only ONE inch larger than it really needed to be to actually fit the winch in there, the push bar it what makes it "big" but for the $20 the push bar cost me, I Like it, and that is what really matters.

Makes a good seat also and if I ever do get tired of it I roll out the torch cut it off and build something different without worrying about the thousand dollar bumper.

PLUS people don't pull out right in front of me anymore and even if they do I KNOW mine will take the hit.

Add? How about REMOVE?
Unless your neck can do a 180 why would you mount the spare in the one spot you can look over the shoulder and see out the rear window?
Put mine on the left please.

If you are going to have an aftermarket bumper, it better be steel so you can hit stuff! I am looking to fab my own, since i am buying a welder to fix my rusted rocker panels, I wil have the equipment and might as well have fun

Well I guess I started to have fun. So far I am into it for 15 bucks. Went scrounging at the scrap yard and found bits of bent steel I thought I could use. Actually what cost me 15 bucks was some 5 X 5/16 flat bar. I got 3 3ft pieces. Was thinking that might be what I wrap it in. Still undecided on that. I don't want it to heavy if I can help it.
