ZJ Electric Antenna Mast Replacement

I've had a search for this but haven't bveen able to find anything. My (1997 ZJ) antenna is broken off and I've order a new replacement mast. I can hear the antenna motor running when I turn the radio on. Can anyone tell me what's involved in replacing the mast/how I go about it?

Thanks.

According to the FSM the power antenna assembly is one unit. From what I can read there is no replacement mast. If there is, there's no instructions in the FSM on how to do it.

I replaced the mast on my '94 years ago. IIRC, You have to remove the chrome mounting nut on the fender, then turn the radio on. The plastic toothed "ribbon" will come out thru the hole. You then put the new "ribbon" into the hole (the gear teeth must be facing the proper way) & turn the radio off. The ribbon is drawn in. Replace the nut & that's it.
Check out this eBay item # as an example: 370107423377
BTW: I have no knowledge of this seller, just posting this for your info.

I replaced the mast on my '93 Limited a few years ago too. As SZJ said, it's fairly simple. I wish I'd had the correct wrench for the chrome nut though... I used electrical tape and water pump pliers to get it off and scarred it up a bit.

Well now that I know this isn't difficult, it is now on my project list. Mine is half bent and doesn't go down all the way.

Not hard as long as you can remove the old one. If I remember right pepboys had one that fit in a 93 if you put a 1/4 in spacer under it

I just got a new Mopar antennae but the last one they sent me didn't push the mast all the way up, it looked like it was too short. So I wanted to check the new one is the right one before I fit it. The part no. is 1 - 04773086AB, anyone know anywhere I can check part numbers?

Just fitted replacement aerial to my 1998 jeep zj. The mounting nut undoes easily - put a flat headed screwdriver in one of the grooves and tap with a hammer. The plastic teeth on the aerial "ribbon" need to face towards the front of the car when you feed it into the hole before turning the radio off. Bought my replacement from car-masts-uk on ebay, item number 400536154742 for £20. According to this ebay seller the Chrysler Jeep part number their aerial replaces is 4773086.

The ribbon on my old original aerial was shorter than the new one & I made the mistake of shortening the new ribbon to match. When installed it didn't catch properly to retract. On replacement aerial number 2(!) I did not make this mistake and installed as it came and it works perfectly.

Hope this helps someone.

Has anyone replaced the electric antenna with a fixed regular one? I am having a hard time finding a proper one that fits on the angled edge of the fender good.

Don't know if this will help you but the base part number is 56007173. You may wind up replacing the body and cable assy as well but not sure on that. Part number for that is 56007373.
