ZJ cummins swap?!

ok i want to do a cummins swap in the near future (after i get a job) so i need to start looking now for parts and engines. does anyone know what year/model is best for my 95 zj 4.0L? i have a dana34 in the front and a ford8.8 in the rear and tom woods driveshafts. i dont know what i need to change in order to support the new engine and the torque. i want to change my front no matter what because its the 3 piece and i want to jump this girl without snapping an axle. just throw out some ideas if u can.

If you do an online search there's a couple ZJ's floating around with Cummins 4BT's in them. I think they come out of old Frito Lay trucks and such. I thought about it once or twice but it'd probably be cheaper and easier to put in a V10 out of a 3/4 ton Ram, and I still wouldn't want to do that.

everything. change everything.

You want to jump the truck with a heavy *** diesel engine stuffed in the nose? Let me know how that works out for ya

This comes up about once a month

A lot of fab work http://mallcrawlin.com/forum/showthr...3679-Diesel-ZJ

Not like a 20 ft jump I meant like basic mudding trail jumps.

it can be done, but its ALOT of work. everything needs to be changed. fuel system, electronics, etc etc. if you get this project started, start a build thread. id love to watch it

I'm not sure you realize just how much work would go into doing something like this.

I was once one of those 4BT dreamers too. I always thought, "heck yeah I want 30 mpg in a jacked up ZJ"....but you really have to weigh in the costs of the swap. Like people have said; you need to swap out fuel system, and electronics. A lot of fab work on the front end is needed as well. You could find a decent 5.2 or 5.9 for faction of the cost of a 4BT, and use the savings for gas money. Just my thoughts.

Yes I understand. I'm making this my toy in a bit and I'm making a full crawler. Chopping the top and everything

Just remember it's unibody. The more you cut the more you have to reinforce. If you pull this off it'll be sick.

That's the same concept of what I want. Except a Cummins I'm her too

Cool. With a Cummins it'll crawl all day at idle.
