ZJ Center Console ideas...

Anybody have any custom made center consoles for their ZJs? I am looking to improve the center console on a 1998 ZJ. Any photos would be greatly appreciated.

Take care,

Good question. Or even an aftermarket console that works well in a ZJ.

I didn't get any new console, but I put a strip of red LEDs just under the arm rest to light up the cup holders...

I have thrown around lots of ideas for mine, none done yet.

- power inverter in the rear cup holder armrest space.
- tap into the rear floor air vent and route it to the storage area for a heated/cooled box.
- heated/cooled cup holders using a peltier electric element setup and replacing the molded plastic cup-holders with some type of stainless steel cup.

This guy on car domain combined a BMW center console with the ZJ

I've been wanting to ditch my plastic console ever since I bought my ZJ.

This was a thread over on Pirate that I'm going to follow loosely. It's an XJ, but you get the gist...

I've had this idea of putting 4 Recaro seats in the Jeep and making a console that goes all the way from the front to the back similar to what the guy on Pirate did but with the rear console being more like an RX-8. Since the ZJ is wider I think it could be done.

This way I'd have a rear bin, cup holders, and 12v outlets. I'd also attempt to fit 2 10" subs in the rear console somehow. Haven't quite figured out how I'd design that though haha.

i have been throwing ideas around for making a center console in my zj going to have 12v power front and rear. a relay and power block under it to power everything on switched power. will have switches for lights and other stuff. going to do some sort of padded lid. i dont like the zj one.it will have the ability to lock with key lock. have cup holders front and rear. will play around with it and update here as well as in my build thread.

That's great except for when you want to fold the seats down. Which mine are folded down more than they are up.

That's a pretty slick idea, too bad he's going to ruin the execution by covering those seats with crappy Katzkins covers. Looking at the outside of that thing, it's no surprise, though.

Recaro's are worth EVERY penny... OMG love em. Why not use a stainless steel box? You can customize it to your needs, will be fairly cheap, and with the use of a welder, you can do the labor yourself and save a pretty penny.

Have to priced stainless steel? I wouldn't really call it cheap.

I will be doing the same. Follow loosely. What's the the little knob that has 1,2,3,4 next to it? Looks interesting. B

You could also do aluminum, lightweight, strong, and cheaper than steel.
