ZJ brake caliper upgrades?

I've seen quite a few disc/rotor and pad upgrades from Stillen, Brembo and other manufacturers.

How about calipers? Are there any good caliper upgrade kits for a ZJ?

I'd prefer something that bolts in without much modification. However, even if you came up with a relatively straightforward way to adapt calipers from another make and model, I'd like to read about it.

This guy as a 6 piston brake kit! The rotors look small but once I looked at the wheels size they are very big.

I have put 4 piston calipers on my to-do list. Company's such as Wilwood, and Outlaw brakes can make custom brake kits for your Grand Cherokee!

Upgrading the brakes is what I consider to be one of smartest Mods one could do. Especially for those who increase their tire diameter. Our stock calipers have one piston, but the four piston calipers use two on each side, which means that they do not rely on the caliper housing to slide on those pins. This is a great improvement in design over 1 & 2 piston calipers. I would like to hear details from someone that has done this on a GC.

What would you recommend for someone like me? Calipers, pads, rotors?

A low-buck approach would be to degrease and sandblast your existing calipers and buy some of that caliper paint.

For under $50 you can have 4 red calipers...albeit not better ones, but they'll be red.

And there I'll be, telling my insurance agent, " I really thought painting those calipers red was good for at least 10 feet....I just knew I was going to stop short of that tree...Oh well....my insurance is going up how much?... and you're totalling my ZJ and giving me how little?"
I think when and if I have red calipers they'll be the real thing bit you're right Joe if I had state of the art brakes and wanted red calipers I'd do what you said!

I just had a look at the Outlaw 4000 calipers - for $165 a piece that seems like reasonable value if they'll work with stock rotors etc....particularly if it hauls you up quicker That's my only real complaint running the Jeep on a daily basis is that the brakes are not the best...but they work, at least! Mind you, I didn't realise that it was such a sin to change out the rotors and pads at the same time - that's what I did with my rear's. Is it really that much of an issue? I kind of had no choice, though since the backing on my pads was grinding the rotor... I won't be letting that happen again...!

Perfect, thank you.

I found out from Behrents that the information I found online earlier was incorrect. The manufacturer is www.outlawdiscbrakes.com 770-844-1777

I called the company. Extremely helpful people.

Bolt pattern of the 4000 Outlaw is two 5/16" bolts, 3.5" on center. Custom bracket fabrication would be required for a ZJ. They recommended talking to a machine shop rather than an automobile repair shop which makes sense.
