ZJ 95 Pryed open gas cap door. Where do I get another locking pin part?

It looks like it was made of plastic and they got some thing in there to break it. Is it a dealer item or do you know of a good source for replacement?

There was a couple auto parts stores here that sold that part but it was basically same cost as dealership, I kinda think they were just going thru dealers honestly. IIRC, it was around $150.. mine broke quite a while ago, I just put a small screw into the plastic pin after drilling out slightly and it works. It doesn't do much but keep it from swinging open though, it's easy to pop it open by hand, but at least I don't have everyone and their cousin telling me "HEY, your gas cover is open!" lol

Replacement part- $150
My "repair" work - $0.25
Not being called out every single day - PRICELESS

That's what I'll eventually be doing. I already have a locking gas cap so I'm not too worried.

FYI, locking gas caps won't save you anymore then a regular gas cap.

it seems to stop the 14 yr old punks from the ghetto that take all the easy pickings. IF they pry my gas door open, that might discourage them from going on..
Curiosity has me now.. Why?

The TJ gas door bezel is a cheap and easy mod. Takes more time to get into the rear cargo area and remove the door to screw the new bezel on, and then put the locking gas cap on.

The question I have about locking gas caps on the ZJ is this: Do you want a cap to stop people from syphoning your gas, or to stop people adding stuff to your tank?

If it's for the former, don't sweat it, ZJ's have a rollover ball in the filler neck, you can't get a hose down there anyway.
If it's for the latter, you probably need to hang out with better people.....

Good points good sir. I try to avoid associating with people like that. Plus, everyone that knows me, knows, if you mess up my vehicles, I mess you up..
I'm mainly worried about the ghetto idiot wannabes trying to siphon gas out. They already stole stuff out of our back yard, IN BROAD DAYLIGHT, so yeah...
I did not know that about the zj tanks, thanks! Ya learn something new every day

It looks like the perp can punch the filler door in to break the pin and then it opens. I found the broken pin part, trimmed it a little shorter, drilled it out, drilled a smaller hole in the main part, and used a pan head wood screw to repair it. It's reinforced with metal now.

Basically what I did but a prettier and actually useful repair. I don't know what happened to that little chunk of plastic that broke off so I made do with what I had in the cargo area lol
