ZJ 4.5 re 1", 1 1/4", or 1 1/2" Wheel Spacers

I'm running stock 16 x 7, 5 1/2" backspacing wheels with 285/75/16 mud tires and I need to know:

Will larger spacers rub more in the fenders but give me more steering?
Will smaller spacers rub less but give me less turning?
Is it just a preference thing and they all work fine?

I would really like to be able to tuck my tires into my fenders while flexing without trimming sheet metal or changing my already longer bumpstop extensions.

This forums FAQ recommends 4" backspacing but I found an article on the web that suggests 4 1/2"

go with 4" right in the middle of both paths and is a great compromise. i only rub on the diverf front lower control arm at full ock in revese with 265/75-16 i can fully tuck them as well no problem. havent touched my fenders

Got to love an ORVIS guy...
