Oh and the proof
nice pic , i do admit though to doing 2nd gear flybys when i see dohc jeep's

I'm guilty of this as well. But I've been revved at sitting at a red light by more mall crawler JK's than anything in this town lol

So I was looking up my vin info and all the info I can find says its a TSI. Is there any TSI exclusive trim options I can look for or anything of that nature? My title doesn't say TSI, but bought a vehicle history report from vehiclehistoryrecord.com and decoded my vin at decodethis.com. Both sites say that it's a TSI.

What is a TSI anyway?

The TSi is the 1998-only lower-tier sport model based on the Laredo. Commonly equipped with the 5.2l V8 and Quadra-trac 4WD, the 4.0 and 2WD were standard. TSis were only sold in 2 colors: silver and Deep Amethyst Purple and most commonly have cloth interiors. They had special 5-spoke wheels and TSi badging in purple.

The name, TSi, is a 1990s Chrysler staple. The Eagle Talon/Plymouth Laser/Mitsubishi Eclipse was sold occasionally with a TSi trim level dedicated to a 2.0 NA model with the GS suspension as I recall, but I don't remember a lot about the first generation DSM. I believe TSi was the top level trim for the Talon marque.

Distinguishing TSi ZJs from Laredos is difficult unless you know what you're looking for. If the VIN is a TSi, you have a secret TSi lol.

Secret TSI, lol.
I don't have any badging identifying it as a TSI. It is a silver color with black cloth interior and some plastic wood grain pieces. It's got everything like you described power train wise. You say it's a lower tier model? Lower in which way? It's got a lot of options on it, just not leather, heated seats/ mirrors, body match cladding.

They were a lower level trim, priced between the base model Laredo and the Limited, which in turn was well below the 5.9 Limited in price. They were basically just Laredos with different badging and wheels, only offered in 2 colors. They offered every option you could get on a Laredo with a slight premium for the TSi package.

Bear in mind, of course, also that the Laredo was not a bare-bones vehicle. Even the most basic 98 Grand Cherokee came equipped with standard air conditioning, ABS, 4-wheel disc brakes, an overhead console, CD/Tape Deck with equalizer, power mirrors, and "premium cloth seats". TSis are basically Laredos with a different set of common options. Most TSi ZJs came equipped with the 5.2 V8 package and Quadra-trac package. Several of those were also equipped with the UpCountry package, though I don't know if the Power Convenience Package was even offered. (power heated leather seats, power heated mirrors, automatic climate control, autodimming rearview mirror, homelink system) Interestingly, I've seen TSis that were identical in every aspect except their center stack options- one had the GDM, one had the VIC, and one had the cubby. Very odd indeed. Sunroofs are, as I recall, just about as common on TSis as the Laredo.

Here's a fun one: in 1996, ZJs were offered with power cloth seats. I don't remember if they were heated or not.

I'd take my 4.slow over a 4 sillynder any day.

Drove 3-4 miles with 2/3 of my coolant spontaneously jettisoned...still firing on all 6
