I wouldn't say it's the plenum, my ram has a blown plenum and I only see it smoke at start up. It's never ran rough. Get a compression test on it.

Could just be a bunch of carbon buildup. If you don't beat on the motor much, take it out for a good, long drive (20 - 30 miles) and once it's good and warm, beat on it a bit (some WOT pulls from 40 - 70 would do it). That should clean it out a bit. However, if it's carboning up badly, it could point to a bad plenum. How much oil does it use?

YKYDAZJW - A decent 5.9 pulls up next to you at a red light, and you cant hold back the urge to make a stupid offer. $2k, cash.

When the loud noise coming from the front end becomes soft and comforting.

When you see all the fancy newer Jeeps with that sticker, " It's a Jeep thing you wouldn't understand." I just think to myself, driving my ZJ lives out that statement, no need for a sticker or even the comment.

I meant number of miles, as that'll give a better idea of how significant the oil consumption actually is.

That's definitely a good bit of consumption then. I go through about a 1/4 - 1/2 quart in 6k between changes. Running it harder definitely goes through more, especially in hot weather. A good bit of mine goes through the PCV though (I've got a catch can on it and I end up with a good bit in there if I beat on it during the summer).

Definitely check out your PCV, etc. When my plenum started to go (just a small leak), I was burning a quart in 3 - 4k miles, which dropped dramatically after doing the plenum.
