You know you drive a ZJ when the only thing keeping you from pulling the trigger on a new Rubicon is your pride as a ZJ owner.

Fair enough. I'm in a position where, in a year or so, a JKU Rubicon is a viable option for me, and it's very very tempting.

...when you don't want anything else.

It is interesting to read about the problems other owners have had. I have a '95 ZJ, 5.2L 4x4 that looks like new and has had virtually no problems. I love the small size. I got it in December of 1994 and see no reason to retire it any time soon.

So, my answer to the thread is: you know you drive a ZJ when you don't want anything else.

Most of the problems are related to the post-96 4.0l ZJs, with the exception of the 5.2's NP249 transfer case, so that's understandable.

Remember: A Grand Cherokee's name is not shortened to Cherokee; it abbreviates to GRAND.

My dad calls the ZJ a Cherokee or the Jeep all the time and I reply "grand cherokee" and he'll respond with "oh whatever"/"No, the Rustbucket you mean?"

Walked past our newer SUV, noticed a new dent earlier and cringed. Know I drive a 96 ZJ when I smile at each dent or scratch, each has a unique story.

When you fight with your husband over getting rid of your zj for a car with good mpg an your only argument is.. It's a jeep thing, I'll drive it until I can't fix it anymore them I'm buying another one. He still doesn't understand why I'm picking my 98 with 209k on it over a new car.
