i was in there today getting some stuff for my buddys truck, and i mentioned it to the manager. he said he'd love to hire me, but the company wouldnt let him since im under 18. oh well, i can hang in there at jack for a while

THAT, my friends, is how you know you drive a ZJ.
I work for a large parts company, I was a mechanic for many many years, so I treat my customers the way I would want to be treated. One of them just let me know that O'Reilly's was trying to get their business, they told him that my company gets 99% of their money. They said that they will beat our prices, they responded that it wasn't the prices, it was the way I treated them, and the things I do to get them what they want. They were then visited by O'Reilly's district manager, who asked for my name and told them that they want their business, and if they have to hire me away to get it, it's what they will do. Hiring employess away from competitors in this business happens alot. That being said, my company has just taken off the gloves, so to speak, they have ramped up my daily deliveries from one in the morning, to 4 a day(for faster service to the customers) implemented special lower pricing on certain items, are lowering prices on fluids for my better commercial accounts. I've pretty much been instructed to never say no. No matter what my customers need, I have been instructed to get it. I procured a mop and bucket for one the other day, and almost arranged for a tow for another(he was able to make it happen at his end) but I would have charged it to his commercial account and paid it out through our credit card. I've even purchased parts from Ebay for one.
Am I locked into my company? No, I will go to the competition if the money and offer is right. Parts is parts.

At work, I've called across the street to the AutoZone for parts I couldn't find, and I send people to NAPA whenever I think that's the best idea between me and a dealer. Never Say No, big policy. Of course, I'd do that regardless of whether it was policy or not. So would all of the guys at my store. It's not that we care personally about every single customer, but we certainly empathize, all of us being car guys and having been in that situation at least once. And that kind of carries throughout my entire store's mentality. We show up to work, not because we have to, but because we want to help people with cars. We're glad to get steady pay for it.

With that said, your mileage will vary at any auto parts store depending on where you are. In someplaces, AutoZone has the best service in the area, whereas in others, they're all unprofessional loons. And the same for NAPA, O'Reilly, et cetera. Where I live, O'Reilly is easily the best parts store to go. Apparently in San Diego, AutoZone is the spot. I've heard in New Hampshire it's Pepboys.

Anyway, I want to be the guy who helps people get their stuff working, time and again. That makes me happy.

Around here i like autozone, and Oreillys. Advanced, ehhh not so much. The autozone i think is the biggest though here.

Ot: when you pull in to work, and it almost dies before you can park. mine always gets really picky when it's low on fuel and is running through all the sediment left in the tank.

I wonder if they plan it this way? oriely is across the street for autozone in my town too! Autozone is the place with the pizza face brats that think every thing they've been told is to be passed on as fact. Oriely's is my main place, guys really do know, and ain't scared to say they don't if they need. Napa has the machine shop in back, (but is across town, away from the other parts stores) and advanced is the place that usually has what you need if all he others don't (their staff is a toss up between knowledgeable and Walmart grade cashiers)

When someone walks into your work and says "Who's bad-*** Jeep is that out in the parking lot?"
And you reply "Mine."
The guy replies "Do you went to sell it?"
...and before he finishes the word "it"
You reply: "HELL NO!!!"

Happened shortly after I got back from lunch today.
